That is a good question and I’m glad you asked. I tie both long and short tails and let the fish choose which one I use. Some times they want a larger profile and some times they don’t Hope this helps. thumb but I don’t trim not sure if it matters I just don’t care for a squared off tail

I have been killing the crappie on this jig all last year.
I hope to learn to tie something just like this in various colors

Nice jig, and I like grey as well. Just got some nexage chenille in from Crazy Angler. One grey in there I really like has some black on it too.

Seems like the LOP crappie are 12 to 20 foot deep in timber most all of the time.
I don’t have the patitions to fish any thing lighter than 1/8. It takes it too long to sink

I don't blame you, on that lake in the deeper brush a 1/4 oz might be a good choice. They be some biguns in that lake... thumb
