Headed down to the coast April 28th - May 3rd for Honey moon. My soon to be loves fishing but has never seen the ocean or experienced the beach. We are going to keep it simple and affordable and just head down to the coast to spend some time together kid free (I raised 3 as a single dad, all teens now and we have a 2 year old together.) . We plan on chartering an offshore boat for 12 hours if we can find a few people to go in on it with us, party boat if not. We will probably spend a few days camping on Surfside Surf fishing then head down to Port Aransas and stay somewhere nice for a night or two then may head to Padre for a night. We know nothing about the Gulf coast or anything about fishing the Gulf coast. I have been once years ago. Looking for some help on gear bait and spots and would totally be down to meet some TFF's for a day of fishing on the coast if anyone wants to join us. Grew up pier fishing on the west coast and fishing the jetties. Have not done much Surf fishing. I have no idea what end of April beginning of May brings down there. Guessing it's hit or miss being the beginning to warmer season. If we make some new friends they will probably be invited up to our ranch for some hog slaying......

the seaweed will be coming in around that time. you can bring some crab lines or nets, as the blue crabs will be coming in as well. bring trout/bass rods for panfish. long surf rods for bigger fish. shuffle or slide your feet, there might be stingrays. for baits you can use almost any artificials. dead or live shrimp. bring a cast net. i usually just bring dead shrimp and catch croaker, sand trout, or whiting and use them as live bait and also for cut bait.
you can give Surfside Jetty a try. catch some good eatn sheepsheads.
be careful of rip currents.
parts of the beach can be deep powdered sand. make sure you have 4wd/awd. turn off the esc traction control. air down your tires, bring a good tire inflator, shovel, tow strap.
