I just had a 45 installed today. And Ill have to figure out something for the foot pedal well as the ultrex pedal wont fit. Short of having the deck well enlarged which will involve fiberglass and carpet work Im considering cutting a 2x10 to fit and getting used to having the pedal a couple of inches higher than Id planned for. I just cant tell the wife that I blew three grand plus and now need to drop another grand or a lot more into getting the front deck reworked. Mr. Incredible, if you are willing to pay an incredible total of $1000 for a 30 minute task, I will set you up on a monthly payment plan and do an incredible job.

Have you read my posts? I have A 52 and I know what will work for me. Im not guessing about anything. Like I said Lots of variables. If you have a 52 and raise it to 45 you will use a higher setting to move your boat etc. before my lithiums my 52 was .5 faster than lifting it to 45 length. Im fishing right now (shallow) with it raised as high as I can Before hitting my 360 so at least 20 above the deck.

I really believe it depends on your boat and how it sets in the water, like stated above I have the 45, fished in some big open water, fished from the back of boat with spot lock on with no problem, you cannot go wrong with either, if you always fish deeper water then I would probably go with the 52", if you don't like to raise your motor way up to fish shallow i would go with the 45".

I went through the same debate a few months ago when I was buying an Ultrex for my 2007 ZX 250. Ended up going with the 45" shaft and it has worked out fine for me. Didn't want to be raising and lowering the shaft to fit the conditions. If the water is so rough that my TM is coming out of the water, then I probably need to find some calmer water anyway. I'm 69 years old and not that mad at them anymore.

I have a Trtion 186 and a 24v, 52" shaft. It looks huge on the front of the boat, and I have only been out a few times since installing, but I love it. I was out Tuesday and the wind was 20mph plus, the front deck was taking on water at times, I was sitting in about 25-30' of water fishing off the back of the boat. Pretty awesome

The Ultrex is great, just don't mess the transducer cable up like I did. Split the union joint and Minn Kota is out of them, on back-order. Spot lock still works, but no graphing for me!

If you are not happy with a 52", any authorized Minnkota Service Rep can cut shaft to 45" and still be under warranty.
Call and check with MK that this policy is still valid.
