Saw a few more folks fishing along the Hwy 31 bridge, but the reports I've heard is that the fishing was extremely slow.
Anybody find any numbers yet?

I'm not a great fisherman but I am thinking about going Saturday afternoon. I will update tonight if I decide to go.

The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

Went today 8-11. about 2 boats and 5 cars when i first got there. fished up and down bank on both sides of the bridge. only caught one fish upstream. about 8 inches long. other direction towards lake watched one guy catch a nice hybrid then small white about 5 min later. also watched a boat down the river towards lake catch a few small ones in about 15 minutes. talked to two different people that said last week they had caught 32 and 40. when i left there was 14 cars and 5 boat trailers. i guess a little early still but was glad to go out and enjoy the weather and just try it out. i guess other people were doing the same.

I was down the on the river of the day 17th. There were about 7 boats and 15 or 20 people on the bank. We were in a boat catching a lot of small ones and a keeper every once a while. Wanting to go back today or Monday

I don't always catch fish, but when I do, I prefer Dos Hybrids

I've fished the Neches every year since the early 1990s. I have never seen a year this slow before. Have not caught good fish at all this year. I think the big die off last spring took a big toll on the sand bass numbers. Went yesterday and we were the only boat on the river. Never been the only boat on a Sunday the first weekend in March in all my times fishing it. There were only a handful of bank walkers too, no one was catching fish.

You should have been here yesterday...

Yup fished it last 10 years. The last few years have slowed down for me. Saw the fish kill. A factor in it. May try sabine

Went this past weekend to Kickapoo - Hyw 31. Only saw a couple of other boats.
Caught small males, couple of wayward crappie, and some yellow bass.
I don't remember catching yellow bass either in the main lake or
during the Neches-Kickapoo run. The main run, has over the years, been
from Feb 20 - March 20 with March 10th being the peak. Thinking
that this year will mirror several recent others.....most of the big males
& females will be a no-show. Many others have written that if they
don't spawn in the creeks, then they will spawn on windy main
lake points. Perhaps so. The season is still winter. Not enough
sunny warm (BTUs) days the last few weeks. I remember fishing
years ago with longtime fishing buddy - Gilbo. We would look
out over the wide part of Kickapoo north of Hwy 31 & south
of the RR and watch the spawners rolling & splashing on
the surface. Haven't seen that in many years. Perhaps my
poor timing. Perhaps activity will pick up later this week
or next week. ** Found a Kayak paddle Saturday evening **
