So I've always been a pan fisherman and have recently taken an interest into Bullheads. There isn't much information on the internet about what power/action rod is best suited for such a small catfish. Currently I picked up a few gx2 6'6 light power rods, Im not a huge fan of the gx2 but figured if Im fishing with light powered gear and a big cat decides to take my bait the gx2 has a better chance of holding up vs other rods.

I want a rod that will be fun with small catfish but can also handle a decent size channel or blue catfish if it comes along. Anybody input is appreciated.

I have been using the ugly cat (ugly stick catfish version) and have been very pleased. it can handle both large and small cats.

So I have other Catfish rods that are specific for cat fishing but even the medium powered ones are like a broomstick on small 10-15 inch catfish.

There isnt a rod in the world that will handle 30+ lb fish without a struggle that is also fun to catch 10" fish on.

I've been happy with the channel cat action with my regular 7' m-m ugly stick. Have to react quickly with those bait mouthing rascals (bobber fishing, have to move a lot of line quickly to get the treble to set). And, I did pull in a surprise 10lb blue with it too. That was two years ago.

Bullheads rarely get over 12� an ultralight will probably work

I don't think those two intertwine so easily; for bullheads and smaller channels, I think a medium powered rod would be fine. For larger channels and blues, probably MH and up.

I have bought more than my share of rods. Currently I use Pro Angler rods for my catfishing. I like the medium action for channel cats and the medium heavy if I target larger fish. I now have eight of theserods and have never broke one. I have broke at least one of most rods available.

Another thing to keep in mind is any area with targetable numbers of bullheads will likely be void of anything of size.

There isn't one rod that will do everything just like there isn't one firearm will do it all. When you really get down to it, catfisherman need at least 10 outifts along with a minimum of 5 thousand dollars worth of tackle. If you don't believe this, look in my garage.

Shimano Clarus salmon steel-head rods are very sensitive and provide excellent casting distance.
