Yesterday we left Midlothan at 9am and showed up to Welsh at 11:30. Trucks were parked all the way out almost to the main toad. Since it was almost noon some folks were leaving but we put in quick. Another boater said there were 2-3 different tournaments going and it took him 2 hours to put in. I thought he might have been exaggerating some but after fishing until 4 and having to get back to Dallas for a birthday party, we headed to the ramp at 3:30. I got my boat on the trailer at 5:05!! I think there were 45 boats I counted waiting in the ramp cove! I’d been there on saturdays before but nothing like that. It was worth the drive and the wait. It was a pretty day and we caught 14 fish in that short little trip. The time before we caught 42 on a day long trip. Biggest was just a shade over 6# that day and right at 5# yesterday. We were fishing slow in scattered grass in 4-8 feet on flukes down near the bottom. They would eat it but not chase it. [Linked Image]

Welsh is taking a beating since Monticello is no longer a PowerPlant lake.

Before they fixed the ramp and made a nice parking lot, you would be lucky to find more than 2 boats on the lake in the winter time during the week

We got there at 5:30AM, only 8 trailers. Weigh in at 3, there were 40+ boats bobbing around to be picked up. Took a good hour for us to get out. Our tournament,McKinney Bass Club had 25 boats, most ever!

Two words...the internet. Four more words...the drought of 2011, when lakes around the state dried up and everyone started coming to East Texas for their tournaments.

I'll start going to Welsh when I am retired and can go during the week.

It’s really not bad during the week. We had a great time on a Th-Fr a couple of weeks ago. Maybe 10 boats at the most was the heaviest on either day.

I remember fishing Welsh back when the store was open. It seemed as if I owned the lake. Never saw more then 3 or 4 boats at the same time. Now I only go on Tues or Wed.

Great Lake to fish but either get their early on a Saturday or fish another lake. Very hard to get in and out by yourself.

Was out there yesterday and today. Saturday caught most of our fish on senkos on the grass edges, was kinda slow. Today we went out and was punching the grass mats and did very good amd the bite slowed down about 11. We noticed fish cruzeing the banks and we started sight fishing and caught about 25 off beds today! You just had to find banks with very little grass and they were on beds. Alot of them had just moved up and were spooky.

It's literally 15 minutes from my front door and I refuse to go because of the madness!

I hope the lake survives long term... with Monticello and Fairfield no longer hot water,... it appears Welsh is going to be abused by the club tournaments...

Require a whole lot of luck...
