I got this schedule here on TFF a few years back and it works well for me here in Centex.
Write these dates down:
Feb 15 - pre-emergent April 15- fertilize May 15- pre-emergent June 15- fertilize July 1- treat for grubs Sept 15- pre-emergent Oct 15- fertilize
Do the prescribed application on or a week before the dates listed. I also have St. Augustine and since following this regiment, it is as thick as carpet. I can't take credit for the dates, it is from Neil Sperry. Scotts Halts Crab Grass and Grassy Weed Preventer is the pre-emergent I use and Bonus S is the fertilizer I use on my St. Augustine. Use GrubX for treating grubs.
Thank you T bird for reposting this. I was about to rewrite it again. Butch if you have a mix of Bermuda and St. Augustine, and you want St. Augustine, use Bonus S as your fertilizer and find a good pre-emergent. If you want Bermuda, use Scotts Turf Builder Southern for fertilizer. St. Augustine likes ot weather and water so you are fore warned. Bermuda will withstand drought conditions better if you are not into paying to water your lawn. Stay away from the weed n feed fertilizer. Just follow the schedule above.

Has anyone ever bought from Ewing Irrigation off Davis in NRH who is not a professional? My friend who has a sprinkler service told me that they have better slip fittings to fix irrigation leaks but also noticed that they carry some pretty specific lawn care supplies as well. I was going to make the trip but was not sure if they sold to the public.

A five spot for a shot and a beer? And you wonder how we wound up here.

Hate to disagree but Bonus S and Southern are both weed and feed fertilizer. Don't use Bonus S on Bermuda and don't use Southern on St Augustine. Use plain Scotts Turf builder for fertilizer.

Liquid pre emergent are probably easier to get than granular but just not as popular for residential home owners. The product I ended up buying because of availability is Barricade with the active ingredient being .58% Prodiamine. I bought the granular, but It also comes in a liquid. I bought mine from Solutions Pets and Lawn since they had it in stock and free shipping. They also have a coupon code right now to get $5 off. givemea5 is the code.Domyownpestcontrol is another good site to check.

thanks men
i had to take out a pine tree about 1 year ago the sap coming out of the roots killed a lot of my lawn
i like the mixture of the 2 grasses & need all the grass i can keep
i will definitely use pre-emergent & probably roll the dice with Bonus S
1 turf guy told me 1 time (life long family friend) "Straight up fertilizer & lots of water."

Scotts Turf Builder Southern for Bermuda is not a weed n feed, just a lawn food. Unfortunately Bonus S cannot be purchased without it being a weed n feed, but it has transformed my St. Augustine. Even though it is a weed n feed, I still follow the pre-emergent schedule I posted. This is from personal use on my lawn and lawns I've installed over the past 15 years. These are around the DFW metroplex in Zone 8.

In my 40 years of turf management you will never get complete control without using a liquid pre emergent at least once in spring and once in the fall. I always put another app down in December and has worked over the years very well. 20 of my years were in Texas.

Dandelions are sometimes an issue along my street. Also any advice for nut sedge? I probably need to update my applicators license.
