Fishing a new lake this Sunday. We're getting a few warmer days and Sunday looks like it's gonna be near 70 and low winds. Water temps are low to mid 50's from what I've heard. Good size lake with some rocky areas. Has some docks, some timber, and some bluff areas. Would you look in creeks for pre-spawn at secondary points? Maybe the back of creeks in the afternoon, or stay out deeper? Is there a decent shallow water bite in these temps. No grass that i'm aware of. I'm thinking they are still out in deeper water, but this is a blind fishing trip for me. Just looking for basic info that would translate across any lake in the North and Central Texas areas. Water is supposed to be slightly stained to a little muddy. No clear water from what I understand.

Fish waterever you feel your strength is and stick with it. I was draggin a football jig over shell beds off of points all day yesterday. Only hooked 2 fish on about 5 bites, but one of those fish went just under 12. I think I'm pretty versatile in just about any technique. If fish are on a particular bite, deep or shallow, I can usually catch em...once I locate them. But this is the hardest time of year for me during the transition from winter to spring to locate them, especially on a lake that I've never been on. On my regular lakes I know just from history some good "spots" on most of them no matter what time of year I'm out there. I'm not the greatest deep water "reader" and my primary goal this year is to learn to read my electronics better. Just trying to gather what ideas you guys have on where the fish may be depth wise given the season and water conditions...deeper or shallower. Thanks for any input.

Ive been having the best results when fishing around 15ft +/- 5ft, fishing extra slow. Usually on points with deeper water (25ft+) pretty close nearby. Usually picking a spot and staying there at least a couple hours. It doesnt seem like Im able to force a bite so I just wait em out until they start to feed than Ill usually get a couple in a short amount of time. The fish from the other day weight 11.88lb. Id be glad to post pictures if I could figure out how.
