So what's your recommendation? Is the full synthetic worth the extra money?

My Merc is no longer under warranty so I use Pennzoil synthetic blend and get it from Academy. $46.99 for a 2.5g jug. Motor runs great and saves a lot of $$$

Run optimax oil in my optimax motor. Get it for $28 gal. At JJ's at Fork. New motor $12,000-$15,000 not worth it to me to try and save a few bucks.

If I ever own a boat long enough to be up from warranty, it will see Walmart Supertech.

Let me just throw this out there... At Mercury, All 2 stroke engines, including Optimax are tested with Premium Blend. They do not use the Full synthetic DFI oil.

Full synthetic is the way to go. Cost more, but reliability is worth it. In my opinion.

I use XD-100 which costs about $40 a gallon and go through 3-4 gallons a year. Switching to a cheap brand is going to save what, $80-100 a year at best for a motor that cost $13,000...

Penny wise, dollar stupid.

Let me just throw this out there... Optimax (DFI) oil and premium plus are both synthetic blend oils. The difference is in the additive packages. It should be obvious since you can use premium plus for premix applications, but DFI oil is not recommended for premix. I don't believe Mercury sells a full synthetic oil. Just sayin'...
