GBRA is raising flows to 1200 CFS on Tuesday. I have my first float trip booked for the following week. Will we be able to find any fish or should I postpone? I had planned to do some wading the day after but realize that will not be happening.

TIA

The currents have been running fast all stocking season! bang The let out from Canyon has been around 750 CFS for the past four weeks. 1200 CFS would be just about impossible to fish. I would postpone my trip! Just my two cents. 2cents

That is my feeling as well but I'm having trouble getting my fishing partner, who booked the trip, to reach out to the guide for an opinion.
Thanks for the response.

Im fishing the Guadalupe Saturday and Sunday with my buddy Brent, from Reelfly this coming weekend. Hes been guiding there for years. Ill try and get you some information. I talked with him earlier today when the flows were 68. The flows are cranking near 700 at the moment. Feel free to pm me with any questions.

As of this morning the lake is still 1.67 ft. high, dropped 0.16 ft since yesterday. I don't know how long they will keep it at this high rate but I bet your guide could tell you since he does it for a living.

Flows were 1290 Saturday and Sunday. Fishing was on fire. Intermediate sink tip lines with green and copper streamers or sex dungeons. Fished double nymph rigs with 12 foot leaders, big air lock indicators. Dont be afraid to afraid to add weight. We were using 5 bb split shots above a worm and egg pattern. Be ready to chunk and duck.

1300 cfs is far from impossible to fish. These higher flows actually allow you a lot more water to fish and less people to dodge while floating. The biggest problem is getting down to the fish. I cant stress enough how important it is to add enough weight to get down where the fish are quickly. We were using 12 foot leaders and sometimes our indicators were a foot to a foot and a half from the fly line. And obviously these were the deeper pools. We adjusted the depth we were fishing all day. Weight and depth is the difference in an eco tour or a great fishing trip.

Friends of mine fished the Guadalupe yesterday around Rio Raft. They did well but said the flow is extremely fast. River flow was above 1200 CFS. thumb

Jesse summed it up pretty well. We fished Monday and caught a lot of fish. It was my first float so it took me a while to figure out the take and I missed quite a few early in the day. My buddy was hooked up from the get go.

No streamers and IM line for us. We fished Jesse's double nymph rig ( egg and squirmy wormie ) with a third dropper. Weight and depth seemed to be the key We found some wadeable areas yesterday and fished from 10-3 with no luck using the same set up. Operator error I'm sure.

A shout out to Dan Cone with Castell Guide Services. Hard working guy who really knows the river well. He was making adjustments in flies, weights and depth all day, all while rowing hard in that heavy flow. Makes a nice shore lunch too.
