We are wanting to make a roadtrip for spring break and have never been there before. Is there some family friendly town that we can see and the little one can play in real snow? I thought about breckinridge but figured the springbreakers would be too bad there that time of year. Thank yall for any tips.

Personally, Durango & Pagosa Springs area, with the later being my 1st choice.

south fork, east side of wolf creek or pagosa springs, west side of wolf creek. pagosa has a good hot spring you can kick back in, not too bad for spring break but wolf creek will draw some skiers. not a bad drive from dfw and easy fly in to durango. stay away from the major ski areas, it will be insane with legal pot available.
cripple creek, gamblin town but cool to go hang in and see all the old bldgs etc. pikes peak/tram ride is cool, not bad at all for the break since there are no ski areas close.
salida, another cool town, monarch ski area is a smaller area and not prone to the crowds of spring break, close to some other cool stuff like the royal gorge.
haven't been back since 2000 but pretty sure things are about the same for the break.

Pagosa Springs gets my vote too. We drove it when my son was small. I want to say it was right at 12 hours, maybe a little less. We broke it up and drove to Amarillo, stayed the night, then drove the remaining part the next day. The lift lines at Wolf Creek will be much less than most other places and the mountain wont be as crowded. Wolf Creek and the Pagosa Springs area gets a ton of snow too.

Go to Durango and ride the train to Silverton. It's really gorgeous with snow on the mountains. http://www.durangotrain.com/On your way way back you can stop in Trinidad for me and pick up a 'package' from my cousin. Just throw it your trunk and don't speed through New Mexico or Texas. I'll pay your gas for your troubles.

A couple other places not mentioned.
Winter Park - great place to stay and ski. Frazier is just up the road. Theyve got several places to sled and tube. You cross the continental divide on Berthoud Pass. Beautiful drive but you need to be comfortable driving snow packed roads. Alternative would be to take the ski train out of Denver. A really beautiful train ride.
Estes Park is an out of the way place. Really beautiful. Sits at the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. Weve stayed at the at the YMCA there. The Shining was filmed there at the Stanley Hotel.

South Fork is a good choice for what you describe. My parents have a place they rent out if you're interested. First two weeks in march are booked up but the rest of the month is open. Closest neighbor is probably 100 yards away, plenty of snow, and butts up to the Rio Grande National Forest. 20 minutes to Wolf Creek ski area. Also, lots of trophy mule deer that will eat out of your hand which is always neat for the kids. https://www.southforkvacation.com/property-detail.php?id=223

Asking for a friend.

Estes Park is outstanding. No skiers or snowboarders.

Except National Park which is right there is only partially opened due to the shut down. Great town to visit but all of these recommendations are great. Cant go wrong with any of them. Best chance to see elk is Estes Park

I'll second the Durango and the train to Silverton. Also, you should look into a snowmobile tour one day. You can find an outfitter in just about any place you choose.
