How is Georgia? Seems like a few guys from the TFF have retired and moved there?

Did you look into Central America to live? Panama maybe?

House paid off almost 20 years ago (15 year mortgage). Retired almost 2 years ago. Once mortgage was paid off, invested the same amount (plus more if I got a raise). Stilll have to save about $600 a month for taxes.

Built first house in 1979 for 35,000.00 and paid off in 20 years(no payments). Sold it and bought another country house/shop on 5 acres and paid off in 15(no payments). Sold it in 2016 and built another country home/shop on 2 acres and paid cash (no payments). Still have taxes and insurance that runs about 4500 per year. Even though I owe nothing on our home we still have to pay " The Man ".

If I did not have a house payment it would go into retirement, but I do so it’s not.

Lake house is free and clear, just the $900 annual tax and homeowners insurance there. Here we still have a few years on the mortgage but the payment is low so no problem. Taxes here are $2200.

Paid off house in 2004, still "making the payment" ever month into an investment fund. Getting to be a nice egg.

I call it renting from the bank. When we get this house paid off it will be like getting a raise. Extra retirement $$$ to have fun with.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

The first was paid off 18 years ago and have been renting it for 20.
The house I live in will be paid for in 2020.

I was downsized/retired debt free in 2006 at 58. Then in 2012 we sold our house in town and bought a lake house that we had told the people if they ever decided to sell it we would buy it. I was still working as a contractor for $65 a hour so I paid it off in 5 years and now I just have insurance and taxes every year which is $3600.

Paid cash for our land in Vegas last year. House that we sold last summer was paid for. Our new home in Georgia that we bought in June had a small mortgage on it just to get some bills cleaned up. We just paid it off so now free and clear. Taxes and insurance here in Georgia are barely a third what they were in Texas. Utilities even cheaper. Now I need to get my shoulders replaced so I can start fishing again and retirement will even be better than it is already.

considered relocating but most of my friends live here plus I like the fishing, dove hunting and weather....if I was a young guy I wouldn't live here because the demographics are ruining where I live in Albany,Ga….we are ranked near the top in crime, poor schools, people on welfare and just about every non desirable category...we can't get capable city managers, police chiefs, school superintendents or young people to move here because of the above bad ratings...

Did you have much damage from Hurricane Michael?

I worked there for awhile after the storm & there were a lot of trees down.
