Wind chill!

If the OAT (Outside Air Temperature) is 35 degrees and there is a 10 mph wind, the wind chill chart said it feels like 27 degrees. I wonder how many Americans understand that not one plant, not one flower, not any water will freeze?

The weather people only give the wind chill temperature because it makes the reports of cold weather more dramatic and to scare people. In my opinion, that is.

If the OAT is 10 degrees and the wind chill temperature is -7, the temperature is is is what?

Look! Up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's an EMP!

My pet peeve is people who steal from grocery stores and start and chain email about it.

I do often wonder about the people who will pass along whatever dramatically arctic wind chill temperature has been reported or forecasted and swear that's actually the real air temp.
Never mind that what they are saying is 50 or more degrees lower than the previous low ever recorded for that location since they started keeping records.
Seems like that would be a clue.

In their defense though the weather people will throw up a map and leave it on the TV screen while they talk showing these alarming wind chill temps and nothing on the map to indicate that those are "feels-like" temps.

Noticed that last night with Pete Delkus. He was using wind chill temps for the Saturday forecast purely for the drama. He didn't bother using them for Friday.

Like a lot of media coverage, it's exaggerated to the point of being fake news.

The coldest temperature I can remember was -37 in Le Mars, Iowa in the early 60's. And that was not wind chill. The high that day was -17. Now that was cold.

I knew what the Air Force thought of its pilots when I learned that at minus fifty chill factor dogs were brought inside. Not pilots however.

I went to the pond this morning around 9:30 to fling a rattletrap, there was definitely a wind chill that got me back into the car in 10 mins

Wind chill does matter.

I was driving in -20 degree weather and my gas lines froze up at 60mph. Pulled off to the side of the road and waited a few minutes. Started back up and began driving only to have the 60 mph wind freeze my lines again. It happened several times.

If you ever have to endure a full defuel of a B-52 in the winter, wind chill means nothing.

Bad news/good news.

The bad news is that I cannot afford to rehabilitate you.
The good news is that I have not been thru the euthanasia class to put you down... nuts

PH, how much snow is predicted in your area? All we are promised is a dusting on Sunday, with cold temps. Darn glad I bought that extra 100lb propane tank. The Boss will have the fake fireplace cranked up all day Sunday.

That regulation was written by a woman that has a pilot as an ex.

Actually water can freeze when the air temperature is slightly above freezing.
It has to do with evaporative cooling.

I don't mind when they give either but when they say it feels like 20 degrees and its blowing 20 mph I know the real temp is much higher.
Sort of like hearing speed in mph, kph or knots. Once you know the number and what its referenced to I do the math if its important.

If it's 40 degrees and you are driving 70 mph, the wind chill outside the car is 10 degrees. If you hold a Dixie cup of water out the window it will not freeze, but it will blow out of your hand. Scientific fact.

Not much up here. Less than inch. This area is right on the border of systems passing thru the mid south. We will have rain changing to snow. When that happens will make big difference. Low on Sunday in the mid teens....

If I am going 50mph in a boat and the temperature is 50F. It is then that I understand wind chill factor.
This is based on a true story.
