I've fished quite a few small club tournaments, but never Basschamps, Media, or the one we just fished yesterday...TTZ. Over 200 hundred teams signed up for the first Central Division on Lake Travis. Having moved from Dallas to the Austin area recently learning these highland lakes has been quite the experience and a crazy challenge. As always I could hardly sleep the night before (you'd think at 62 years old I wouldn't still get "game jitters!) and the weather was fairly stout. Strong north winds made running painful for these old bones. My partner and I did manage to squeak out a limit, but we only had about 7 and a half pounds. We knew we weren't in the money and with the weigh in being a long way from where we put in we decided to call it a day and release our fish. Turns out it was pretty tough on most everyone. Less than 17 pounds won it, way down from previous years totals. It was fun, exciting, and disappointing all at the same time. We caught fish most everywhere we went but just couldn't get the right bite. Spent most of the day fishing in nearly 20' or deeper. I have to say having not fished in a tournament in nearly 8 years and not really fishing a whole lot the last two years due to moving, I feel like I had a "decent" day. I only missed one fish all day. Now that I'm close to retirement I hope I can get out more and sharpen up my game. Looking forward to next month on Buchanan! Fishing...it does a body good!

You picked a good trail. Booker is a really good guy and trys as hard as any TD you will find to make sure people enjoy his events. I wish his north stuff would get some legs.

I don't know how the rest of them are, but I was really impressed with the way this one was organized. After fishing in smaller club tourneys ( 15-30 boats) I assumed take registration and take off would be a cluster "truck". Not at all. They got nearly 200 boats outta there with no problem. Kudos.

His are always that way, dont get me wrong there are a handful of guys running trails that do a great job. All the bigger ones are well run by people who know what they are doing. The way Booker handled the cancellation at toledo last year due to fog was 100 percent pure class act. You could tell it pained him but he made it as right as he could for something out of his control.

You picked a good trail to fish. TTZ puts on a first class tournament with good pay outs.

Appreciate the kind words and thank you for fishing TTZ! A limit on Saturday was an accomplishment on Travis with that falling/cold water to be sure. See you at Buchanan, and we are also looking forward to the first north event on Whitney!

See you at Buchanan, and we are also looking forward to the first north event on Whitney! You guys run a top notch tournament Mr. Booker. I am the guy that bought the white 191 Legend and had you guys do quite a lot of work on it last spring. Hope I can get out and pre-fish Buchanan a little. Only been on it once for about 3 hours and it was way down then. For that many boats to come and go with hardly a ripple...that was awesome! Keep it up. Hopefully I'll come home with a big check next time!
