Hey y'all, been a while. For the best, really, as life the past couple years has been a trip. I hope 2019 is good to each of you. I'm optimistic after a few down years.

If you don't like my style or stories, bail out now, because I'm going to have some fun and ramble.

When I last dropped by, I was having trouble professionally and hurting from drinking. A bright side had been screenwriting and a change from Dallas to Fort Worth digs. I knew that life could be better, so with family support I checked in to a facility to dry out and it worked great. Met some cool people on the inside, and hated the oppressive structure. The staff didn't like my "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" jokes very much.

Spent the next few months totally sober. Found my appetite again. Gained 20 pounds and felt better than ever. Soon after I got a chance to join a small company and get my feet back under me. Clean as a whistle I was able to handle life and emotions a lot better. My family could tell, and I weathered some leadership craziness and stress better than ever before.

The hard part was moving from Dallas to Fort Worth and losing the ability to hang out with good friends. It's like I was in a different state. We kept in touch, but there was no more jam session time. They gave me my space to clean up and the unfortunate side effect is that we're not close anymore. Family life has been improved though, even if the suburbs are kind of a trip.

In Dallas there were some dwarf goats. Here there's a neighbor who leaves their poor dog outside constantly and it digs under the fence to try and socialize with mine. Poor dog. Those idiots stole my trash can last week. I just took it back in the night. Now the fence line is coated with cayenne powder. So far so good.

Screenwriting has gone well. Made some connections, still working on some pieces. Got a really fun "Dazed and Confused" type short that I hope to finish in time to enter into the Austin Film Festival this year. Still don't have an Agent or Manager, but this year I think it might happen.

Guitar has been very limited. I did pick up a Hamer Slammer for $50 that is my project now. It's like a Gibson Explorer but about 3/4 size. I call it my 25th anniversary present. It had hardware but no pickups, and it was a gross silver re-paint. Disassembled, sanded down, been buying parts and stuff for the past couple months. I'm planning to use vinyl wrap - reflective gold chrome - use carbon fiber for the pickguard, and take it out to some open mics.

Oh, about playing live, I got a Boss GT-001 to satisfy my lust for effects and it's dope. I plan on taking an mp3 player, the GT, an axe, and ripping it up with a backing track like "Humble" or anything by Greta Van Fleet without the vocals.

Best albums of 2018: Stone Temple Pilots, Brazilian Girls, Mark Knopfler.

Go Cowboys.

See y'all in 2020.

I'm no map maker or anything but aren't Dallas and Ft Worth right next to each other?

Hey 6String, good to hear from you again. I am pleased to hear of your sobriety. I can tell you that it gets easier as the years go by and they will. Same thing happened to me when I quit in 87. Lost a few friends but more so just drifted away from that style of life, basing everything around drinking. You'll find new friends and new doors will open, you can take that to the bank. Lots of folks out there that play music and stay clean and sober.

Yes
I live in Flower Mound, Texas. Both Dallas and Ft. Worth are on my places to see before I die list.

Do you and Jay nod or wave or salute each other as you pass in your Bentleys?

Yeah, about three hours away.

If you could imagine Dallas as a butt cheek, and Fort Worth as the other butt cheek, Arlington is right in the middle.
