Had a nice day on Dunlap. Fished from 8am till 2pm and caught plenty of fish. Bluegill,Redear, and Redbreast all in the 8 to 10 inch range. Had two Redear and one Redbreast in the 10" range. Caught several bass with the biggest going about 5 pounds. The water was a little stained and clear in some areas. Strong current but very fish able. Launched my Kayak at Schumans Beach Boat Ramp and fished the lower end of the lake. Fish were found in 8 to 16 feet of water by docks. Silver Rattle Traps, small Silver/Blue Crank Baits, and Gold Panther Martin Lures got the best results. Located a nice brush pile in about 15 feet of water with plenty of fish showing on my graph. Could not get them to bite but will be trying again in the near future. Kept a few of the sunnies for the dinner table. Caught about 40 to 50 fish. Love fishing those Guadalupe River Lakes.
Side Note: Looks like a wet day tomorrow. Going to fish a trout stocking in the morning!
Sb you can easily launch a jon/small aluminum boat at Schumans. Much easier at Schumans than the I35 ramp. I am in a kayak and the current is brutal on the upper end of Dunlap. Not so bad at the lower end.
It's been a very hard fall and winter fishing the river lakes current wise for sure. Going down river is easy but to fast. It's paddling back up river that is a killer!
Fishing small sections of the lakes makes it a little easier!
