With the lake at nearing 10ft and gates closed on apillway im curious when the creeks will become fishable.

The creek is fishable when the flow slows down, but you might have to go on the other side of bridge to fish due to high waters. That's where the orange comes into play, the fish will be up there in full swing.

Is Nails Creek fishable now, and if not how much would the creek need to recede?

Cedar Creek would be the first one to be fishable.

The lake is still rising at 10 feet so who knows when the creeks will be fishable. The fish are there, but good luck finding them with all the extra water. More rain is predicted in the extended forecast.

I use to keep a record of the water level on Lake Travis back in the day. The reason I did this is so I would know where I needed to be on the river during the white bass spawn. The best bite was always right where the river flow ran into the lake water and slowed down. The fish would be piled up waiting for the water tempter to rise and the spawn kick into high gear. I never kept a lake level record on Somerville but it sure would be nice if I had, then I would know where the best place would be to start out. I'm guessing the lake water is probably up to Irwin bridge since it's ten feet above normal pool. It is hard to tell where the lake is on this creek due to how long it is and the water flow. But just to give one an idea, the lake water level is normally up close to Newman's Bottom, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 mile downstream. But that's at full pool, so ten feet above full pool should put the lake water level closer to Irwin bridge. And this is something to think about on the other creeks as well. An angler will have to go further upstream to get into the better bite if the lake stays this high. But remember when the water gets cold the fish will hunker down in the deeper water pockets. They are also real hard to find when the water is cold but when you do you hit the mother load.

Which creeks are fishable now?

this is one of the most thoughtful considerations I have ever heard on this topic. It's not intuitive where the functional boundary is between a lake and the rivers flowing into it. I mean its intuitive that there must be such a boundary but there are a lot of subtleties that probably only the fish really understand in real time..

Spring creek fishing is near. If your looking for a good overall rig to get into the creeks or fish mainlake i have it. Time for a upgrade, and in few years. We are deploying end of this year and dont want to see it goto waste.

All the creeks are fishable to some extent. Nails and Cedar are much clearer than the Yegua at this point but it is clearing daily. All the creeks are still very high and the banks are extremely slick. The current is moving at a good pace near Irwin bridge in the Yegua. There is very little flow near the CR 125 bridge crossings at Nails and Cedar.

I caught 21 white bass and 3 crappie between 3:15 and 5:45 PM today. The fish are scattered. I caught 6 white bass in one spot but no more than 2 in any other spot I fished. I had to keep moving and trying different spots. There was no particular pattern or location. I caught about 2/3 rds of them near the bank and 1/3 in the middle. Some were high in the water column, some in the middle of the water column and some on the bottom. There was also no particular presentation working any better than another. I caught some stripping the fly fast, some stripping it slow, some on the fall, some as soon as the fly hit the water and even a couple while reeling it in.

Lake level is 247.89. COE opened the gates on Thursday. Both Nails and Cedar now how a low flow to them. The rain we got on Friday night kind of mucked up the creeks a bit. I went by Irwin Bridge on Saturday morning. I talked to several fishermen. They had caught limits of white bass on Friday but were not catching many on Saturday morning. There was a large crowd there.

I fished from 7 to 9:30 and only caught 4 white bass. Then around 9:30 the bite improved significantly. I caught 9 more between 9:30 and 10:30. When I got home I checked the barometric pressure and there was a significant drop in pressure starting at 9:30 AM. Once again, that dropping barometric pressure proved to be the reason for my success. The pressure is supposed to be dropping all week but there is a small chance of rain for most of the next week as well. The pressure is expected to start rising again rapidly on next Saturday.
