Myself and good friend Steve headed up to Stonewall TX and fished the Rainbow Trout Stocking on the Perdernales River! Texas Parks&Wildlife's stocking truck arrived and it was determined that the river flow was to fast to stock the trout in that area. They did drop about 100 fish there and they dropped the rest further up river to a much calmer spot. The water was stained due to a resent 2.5" of rain the Stonewall area had gotten the night before. The bite started out slow and stayed that way. Stained water and strong current played factors in the bite. We both got our limits in three hours of fishing. All fish were caught on the Berkley Trout Bait-Cheese and Rainbow Colored. There were only five anglers fishing including us. Everyone was catching fish but at a slow rate. We also had a GREAT breakfast at Lindig,s Cafe in beautiful Stonewall TX. Getting a double limit of Rainbow Trout on the Perdernales River. It just don't get any better!

Side Note: Looks like other rivers and trout stockings are having problems with strong river flow. What's your take?

Thanks Gitter for the reply! Every trout stocking I went to on a river with the exception of the Blanco River had a strong fast current. The Medina River was not that bad. As already been well stated. Spring,summer,and fall should be GREAT providing that there is no more MAJOR FLOODING! The ground across Texas is very saturated over past rains and flooding. Any good amount of rain is going to provide a lot of run off. Any MAJOR RAIN EVENT will provide some MAJOR FLOODING which would effect the bite in a negative way! Just my cents.



Side Note: Water bodies across Texas are in GREAT shape. Could always use some maintenance showers. Should be a year with a lot of BIG FISH being caught.

Thanks Curtis for the reply. The river flow played a HUGE factor in this years stockings. The only river where the flow was not much of a factor was the Blanco River. All the other rivers I fished the flow was a factor. It was defiantly a challenge fishing the rivers this trout stocking season!

Totally agree with you Chuck. The trail race was a roller coaster!
