Does anybody know if there are any plans to re-open this area? I can't remember the last time the gates were actually open. I assume the closure was flooding related but that's just me guessing.

It looks like a good area for bank access from the maps and I see cars parked where people have hiked in. Not sure the legality of parking and hiking in as I have seen police parked checking the vehicles there a couple of times.

It will probably be a long time before they reopen that park if ever. The last time they cleaned it up and cleared a log jam, spent a lot of time and money just to have it flood again shortly after opening it up. You can access the other side of the highway if you don't mind walking through swamp.

If you go farther up the greenbelt you can get good access at 428. Caught a bunch of crappie up there the last couple of years. Good luck

Thank you. I might make my way up to 428 next chance I get.

It is a bummer indeed. One of my favorite places to drop a kayak and float downstream to some exceptional fishing. Years past I have caught a lot of whites, hybrids and some huge gar. Hiking down is a trek in itself unless it finally completely dries up. If you do make the hike, watch out for ticks. They are bad down in there.
