Every year I like to try a new lake for several days. This year we have decided to try Lake O' the Pines. We are going in early May. I have never laid eyes on this lake so I am reaching out to see if anyone can give me some suggestions:

* Is there a better side of the lake? North or South side? Wanting this info so I don't book a cabin at the opposite end of the lake smile
* Any recommendations on lodging for 5 nights?
* Any local restaurants that I need to check out while I'm there?
* I couldn't find any specific slot information on this lake. I know several of the east lakes have slots, is this one of them?

Any information you are wanting to share is appreciated. You can PM me if you want to share any tips also smile

Thank you and happy fishing everyone!

Fish North end above 155 bridge and below 259... lake o the pines RV Marina and Inn is the nicest, cleanest, safest place to stay on the lake. Launch there too. Steve doesnt let trash or dope heads run around his place. They keep a good eye on it. Not a slot lake either.

Just below 155 on the north end, on the right side, there are some islands and the river makes a lot of turns around them, really good postspawn area. Also look on map for the old railroad track and levee, kinda mid lake.

That steakhouse is called Five D Cattle Co. Have not been there in a few years but when I did go the steaks were very good, the sides not so much. They were OK but nothing compared to their steaks. I'm pretty sure they are only open Tuesday-Saturday (closed Sunday and Monday). Phone 903-562-1291.

The Cafe right at the turn to Johnson Park is pretty good as well and very reasonable. Be careful running the lake if you stay south! Stick to the boat lanes. There's lots of timber out there that can ruin your day. Same is true north of the bridge.

Mi Casita food truck/restaurant has good breakfast tacos in Longview.

El Fogon taqueria just to the north at Lone Star is supposed to be good

It seems that the majority of the cabins that we are looking at renting are on the south side of the lake. How is the fishing on the south side?

Promise you, keep the boat on the trailer and make the 15-20 minute drive to the north end of the lake and fish there... May is prime time for up there.
If you stay south, it will be tough being your first time out and don't set your expectations high.

It takes about 15 min to run from one end of the lake to the other. You can catch them on the south end pretty easy but the quality is better up north
