The lane is there, but the current in the lake moves the fallen timber and creates floaters all the time! The lane narrows quite a bit around the high power lines between the rock pile and timber on one side and the timber field on the other side.

I go with a guide on Welsh. Love the lake, but not worth the chance of taking out the lower unit, plus the haul from Arlington all the way out there. If I split with a friend it's not that bad and we catch a lot of fish. This time of year, lucky to get 2-4 fish on Pool so wife gave me a trip for Christmas. Be out in a few days. My guides got black marks all over his graph from the stumps he's hit over the years. Plus not sure my 80lb trolling motor will handle all the grass out there. The grass is much higher than it was 3 years ago. Good luck and be careful. Personally I just wouldn't run hard .period. Maybe it takes 2x as long at 25-30 mph, but it's not a big lake and living is high on my list.

Truth here. Was there yesterday and saw a floater, bottom end up, right out in the middle. Never had any problem running south toward the dam as long as you stay in the middle and look out for floaters. Sometimes the fish are behind the grass, sometimes in the grass and sometimes in front of the grass. Yesterday they were in neither, or at least I didn't find any. Found a school off a secondary point and got'em with a drop shot. Caught 18 out of that one school. Leaving the parking area to the ramp is basically clay with ruts, dips and drop offs so you'll want to take it slow and easy. After launching it is a paved road back to the parking lot and yes the ramp is steep but you'll figure it out.

I fished here on Saturday. Didn't find anything in the grass but killed them around sunken tree limbs along the bank.especially where the water is darker.

There was a GIGANTIC floater about 20 yards east of the rock pile. It was YUUUUGE.

What were you fishing with in the grass? Swimbait bite should be picking up, but I'll know more after I go out on Thurs. Going to be 68 degrees. Water temp by the discharge may be over 90. Crazy weather.

Here's a floater I pulled out of the boat lane near the old cooling towers in the boat lane and dragged into shallow water several years ago. Would have ruined someone's day for sure.

My trip to Welsh yesterday for the first time was good. The parking and ramp situation was uneventful. The ramp looks like it is collapsed in the middle but easy to load and unload. I went North (idled only) for the first two hours and did not get a bite. At that point, I was not impressed and considered loading up and heading to Lake Hawkins but did not. I went back South and fished an area mid-lake. I decided to slow down and concentrate on the spot within a spot. I ended up catching around 20 or so over the next 3 hours. My biggest and first fish was a 5 pounder. Everything else was in the 1 to 3 pound range. I only caught them in the deeper grass with a split shot rigged trick worm (Grasshopper color). It was non stop action and then someone threw the switch and they were done. I am going to wait and go back in the Summer to learn it more. There were 3 trailers in the parking lot when I arrived and around a dozen or so when I left. I did not see any floaters but I did not run around much either.

That lake is a [censored] shoot for running since the floaters move around we smacked one last trip in my buddies boat running the same line we always run. He has a gorilla hull and it didn�t even leave a mark and missed to lower unit so we were lucky

Build it, and they will come, the scary part with Welsh is the floaters, big rains,and current move stuff around

I remember when they did it, It was a good and bad thing. Overall it sure increased boat traffic, before it was pretty ghetto ramp and ghetto parking lot.

One good thing , I don't see anyone calling it Lake Welch anymore, I spent years spell checking the TFF for years on the correct lake spelling as it is known as now.

I think the proper name is Welsh Reservoir but TP&W calls it Lake Welsh and TP&W is never wrong. Lake Welch is actually in New York.
