Seeing and hearing more and more reports of 10 fish days at Squaw... guys you can do that on cold water lakes right now and not have to battle the crowds. You can get big time numbers if you wanna go sit on one of those monster deep schools and catch a ton of 12-14” fish with a decent fish mixed in every now and then.... if your not doing that forget about catching big numbers. Last month before it started getting hammered 40+ fish running around chunking a spinnerbait was easy, had several trips with those numbers and on the trailer by noon. Then tournament time started... I fish lots of tournaments, so I’m not a tournament hater, but anyone that denies what they have done to this lake is blind!! To catch quality (3.5+) you have to sacrifice bites, but who wants to get up that early and deal with the crowds to catch 5-7 fish all day? Not this guy!! Caught 7 in 5 hours on Ray Bob Saturday, my smallest fish was about as big as a good one on Squaw.

The handfull of times I've gone I've always only had around a 10 fish day. Only went between dec. 20 - feb. 10th, maybe I should go a different time of year...

Its taking a beating like I have never seen it. I'm probably done out there for the year save one event. It's not worth it and I can't believe the number of people going in hope of catching maybe a couple 3s. And some rats

So the crowd I saw Saturday and a week ago Sunday were above average size for that lake? It fishes big if that’s the case. I only had one or two cases where I felt I was fishing used water.

Fairfield, a few years ago, fished so small, that if it had 30 boats on it, you saw every one of them, two or three times.

Squaw is a bass factory. It has plenty of fish. It’s the $30 to get in that keeps my cheap [censored] going to cold water lakes. Lol.

So after 2 trips you have become an expert on it? The weights have steadily decline and decent fish have become fewer and farther between. There was a time when we threw back 3 lb fish with an empty live well cause if you had one you weren't getting paid anyway. Now you grind for a 3 lb plus bite. Yes, there are plenty of numbers if you are into jerking rats. As to it fishing big or small it depends on whether you are fishing good water or junk. Plenty of junk out there.

Not an expert “Squaw King” by any means. Just saying that the shear numbers of fish means it’s gonna be fine. Maybe size is hard to find right now. But, the big ones are still there. They are probably tired of blue fleck power worms, that’s all.

I feel better knowing that a guy who has been on the lake twice says the big ones are still there. Lol lots of solid knowledge behind that statement.

No butt hurt here. Im just surprised the number of people that get off on tugging on little fish. Lakes have ups and downs and it's for sure on a downward trend and has been. I do think pressure has alot to do with it, I also think the forage base is changing somewhat and isn't great for supporting the bigger fish right now. Throw in mortality and it is what it is.

What is the dominant forage out there, Talipa or shad or crawfish?
