It's been about five or six year ago! I have two nice Cane Poles in my arsenal but hardly ever use them. When I did use them they were a blast!  Maybe I will need to keep that in mind!

It was a great way to fish. Biggest fish I ever caught was a 5lb black bass when I was a kid. When the crappie would come in, it was hard to keep minnows on your poles they would bite so fast.

Fished a cane pole at ymca camp as a kid.
Caught the largest catfish in the lake with it.
Was too scared to touch them with the whiskers and all.
Had to have my picture taken with my counselor holding the fish for me.
Also used them for sunfish fishing off the dock.
Caught a zillion fish that way.

The last time I used a Cane Pole was when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I guess a fly rod will be as close to a cane pole as I will get . Love catching em on the fly!

Well...probably around 60 years ago...good grief, time fly's by. My Grandfather taught me how to fish with a rod & reel on lake Dunlap when I was 7 or 8. Still like to use them especially now with arthritis in both thumbs. Used initially in '58 and thereafter "graduated" to Zebco 202 which I still have in great operation. Below is results of son with grandson 11 yrs. ago using a cane pole with bit of red wiggler at a TFG reservoir in Houston.
