The thread yesterday about the 2% savings accounts at Ally and American Express got me interested. I opened a 2% account at Ally, but haven't transferred any money there yet. With all the layoffs at Chevrolet, is there any reason to be concerned about Ally's stability? And yes, I know it's FDIC insured.

No I would not be. They are too big to fail at this point.

PNC has 2.35% with no fees or minimums though. Might as well get everything you can.

As long as you have < $250.000.00 in an account what diff does it make? If the FDIC window to the treasury closes it would make no difference what your money is invested in.

FYI - if you set up "payable on death" beneficiaries, you can go above the $250k with FDIC coverage

Not at this time, but they have been in business for a very long time and unlike the internet banks have actual hard assets, so I would not hesitate to do business with them. Several of my classmates from U. of Pittsburgh business school worked there out of the MBA program.
