Hi - I'm new to the site, but am hoping for some info from folks who know more than me....I picked up a St. Croix Ben Doer 8'6" surf system rod and am not sure on reel pairing. It’s rated for lures up to 1 1/4 oz. I have a Cabela's Salt Striker 30 but was thinking maybe of going with either a Penn Battle ii 4500 or maybe a slammer......something a little bigger than what I've got.....Thoughts? I'm likely buying online, but might be able to take the rod in to try out a couple for feel and balance purposes. Thanks in advance!

So you want to take your new rod to a tackle shop to see how it feels with a different reel then go and buy it online. Am I reading that correctly?
