This fall has been "Hit&Miss" ! Sometimes we get em and other times not. With all of the early fall flooding and the many cold fronts coming through trying to establish some sort of patterns on various water bodies, has been hard to say the least. Myself and Rick aka Catyakker were lucky one fall afternoon fishing a local creek the day before a cold front. The creek was in good shape with good current and a couple of deep pockets of water. Rick managed to catch what we thought was a nice Bluegill. The length of the fish was 9.50" and the certified weight was .79 Lbs. I caught a nice Rio that was 9" in length and a certified weight of .70 Lbs. Both fish were caught using worms on ultralight tackle. Fish were close to brush piles by deep pockets of water. Both fish were released. Water body record for the Salitrillo Creek was issued to Rick for his Hybrid Sunfish (Not a Bluegill) weight record. Water body records for my Rio Grande Cichlid were issued for both the weight and catch&release,Rio Grande Cichlid Salitrillo Creek. Catching some fall record fish. It just don't get any better! fish

Yep, this sunfish hunting never seems to amaze me. Just when I think I know what I am doing, I am proven wrong. Still Looks like a Bluegill to me. nuts Least wise I never took Banker's Bluegill record away, but I do believe he is going to have a hard time beating this Hybrid record. wink

Nice fish gentlemen thumb

That bluegill must have had a small amount of red ear cross. It looks more like a bluegill to me too. I do catch bluegill X redear hybrids quite often and I can see a bit of that cross, but very little. I know the person who owns the state catch and release hybrid sunfish record. grin

Very nice!

May I ask when you submit your CR records how many pictures of the fish on the measuring board or tape do you usually submit?

I got a water body record myself for a 16 inch crappie. When I got my certificate back it stated it was 15 inches. I inquired and was told it was because there was only the one photo. My thought was well that is true but the one clearly shows it at even a bit over 16.

Not a big deal just curious.

You only need one photo of the length. You also have to take a picture of yourself holding the fish. I also submit a picture of the girth measurement but I don't think it is necessary for a C&R record. I suspect the mouth wasn't closed on your picture. The mouth needs to be fully closed and the tail pinched. That's why I always try to use a bump board.

Plus #1. The mouth needs to be closed and the length of the fish clearly shown. I have always sent in two pictures. One showing it's length and the other of me holding the fish. Ron Smith who is the Records Coordinator can answer all of your questions in regards to any questions you might have on a record fish. Both his email address and office phone number are listed on the Texas Parks&Wildlife Web Site! thumb

Congratulations guys on yet a couple more records. Good job. woot I would have guessed Bluegill also on Catyakker's record. hmmm Do you think you would have caught a few more record fish if not for the major flooding that had occurred this fall? hmmm
