Please let me know which one you wear during the colder months. I know some will say " Just don't go out when it is cold. but to the people that go out. Please give me your opinion.

Waders. But be sure to wear a belt with them.

I prefer waders with a belt. Either way, leave the cotton and cotton blends at home or in the truck. Wear only polyester and wool on the water. Dress to Swim and you will be fine.

Define cold.
The problem with neoprene, wet suits or neoprene waders, is that they do not breathe at all. Every bit of sweat that your body generates will remain trapped under the neoprene and next to your skin. In my experience, wet suits are great in cool to fairly cold water to stay warm while in the water surfing or scuba diving or maybe even wade fishing in cold water. They are horrible to wear for any length of time outside of the water, especially if theres any physical activity.
I like to paddle around when I fish. Neoprene is just super uncomfortable with the sweat being trapped underneath. Just thinking about it gives me the willies. If the sun comes out, its like being steamed in your own sweat. Breathable waders are much better, but still get clammy with moderate exertion and not particularly cold weather.
Anything above 50 with sun, I wear shorts and a light fleece pullover. 40s to 30s and cloudy, its breathable waders with synthetic clothes underneath, no cotton. Never jeans and never neoprene for me while in a kayak.

You might want to look at the following thread which will provide lots of good information and practical experience: Cold weather kayak gear for north texas. After all the input I got, I decided to go the wader route. I used to dive so am very familiar with wet suites and could not see myself fishing in one. Especially for the feet and lower legs which would be wet from the beginning. Yesterday weather started about 51 and got down to lower 40s while I was out. Learned from prior trips need to wear more than expect. I wore: liner sock, light wool sock, heavy wool sock, like one would wear as outer sock when backpacking, wading boots. Poly long john bottoms, nylon pants, Stockingfoot waders, frog tog pants(mainly to keep my waders clean but turned out to be just right and since not moving my legs a lot not really defeating the gortex waders breathability.) Quick dry t - shirt, nylon/poly/spandex 3/4 zip top, non cotton thick flannel like shirt, frog tog jacket(mainly for the hood to keep head dry while paddling but also kept shirt dry.) PFD Glacier Flip Mitts One hand warmer that was a dud. Kept me comfortable without being hot and I spent the first 1 1/2 hours paddling around mapping out the lake and half of that against an 8-10 mph wind. My hands got a little cool and the hand warmer would have been nice. In summer seemed cooler being next to the water than in a boat. In winter, seems colder than in a boat and the cold seems to eventually seep through what you have on. Also, once the sun goes down it gets colder really quickly.

I wear a pair of breathable waders almost year around. With the right layering I can comfortably fish in below freezing temps with proper headgear, gloves, dry top, and chemical warmers. This past Jan 1 the temps never got above 29 degrees and I had to let cool air into my dry top to keep from overheating with the chemical warmers in feet of waders and around my neck and ears. I enjoy fishing the power plant lakes in the winter and the colder the day the better the fishing. In summer time I can wear them comfortably until about noon and then they come off unless its cloudy in which I can still wear them all day and through any rain storms. Dry top in winter, light breathable waterproof jacket in the summer. So many benefits for me... no sunburn on my ankles or feet, no worrying about getting hydroids in the saltwater, no worries about mosquito bites at night, no driving home in slimed or bloody pants. And with the zippered waders, never have a problem taking a leak. Going on 5 years of heavy use and not a leak. https://www.orvis.com/p/silver-soni...jjIOX3wIVw7fACh2HqgAPEAQYASABEgI-QPD_BwEWith drytop that has rubber gaskets around waist, wrist and neck, you will be completely dry in rain and only get a little leakage around waste if you go swimming and climb back on kayak.

Thanks for the advice. i was also a wader guy. I understand that sooner or later I will go for a swim. I just want to make sure thing are as much as possible to my advantage. As far as the waders and the belt. That seems to be a good idea. but i wear a bigger PDF. Does that help with keeping some of the water out?

No, the PFD won't help with that. The belt helps keep water from filling your legs if you wind up in the water. You won't weigh more but it will be harder to move around.

I like to fish during calm winter days too, especially in the creeks. I used to wear breathable waders with a belt as well. Now I wear waterproof kayak pants and jacket, and knee high rubber boots. But either will work - the later is more comfy to me.
I bring towels, extra clothing with me in case I fall into cold water. I also started to bring extra "hot hands" heat packs.

Most guys are wader guys, I'm one myself and but just bought a wet suit for the surf in the winter. I don't know of anyone that has flipped in very cold conditions with waders but scares the [censored] out of me now that I'm a little older. I also use a totally different kayak when I'm shark fishing from the surf and don't go offshore in the winter time. I'm only using that kayak for deploying baits and wouldn't want to be wearing waders doing so because when I flip over, you can bet they'll fill up. The pfd won't keep it from filling up up will keep you floating. Can't imagine how hard it'd be getting back into the kayak with the waders full.

Todd posted the following video which shows what happens when you go in the water with your waders on. Exploding the waders of death mythAfter watching this you will be able to make an informed decision.

A paddling jacket is a good option but there are other alternatives. I have a nylon/poly/spandex 3/4 zip top from REI which has kept me warm even after total submersion in a mountain stream with air temp in the upper 30's.

Magellan Neoprene Waders , I fell in a creek last year bank fishing water was freezing and I didnt even feel it, had to walk down the creek about 5 yards to where I could climb out plus they float so if I do fall out of my kayak they help me float and they are inexpensive .
