My son's truck is too tall, wide to go thru a auto car wash. Was thinking of getting him a power washer for X-mas. Trying to keep it under $200. Are the electric ones just a pile? Gas is so $$$ and just more to deal with. Opinions?

I had an electric one that lasted for about 2 years with limited use during that time frame. They are a waste of money if you ask me. Ive been looking for a good deal on a gas washer.

I'm not a big fan of power washing cars in general.
The mud & stuff will usually blow of with the garden hose, and a strong power washer can sometimes
blow water into places it can't get out of----- until it rusts out a hole to vent or drain itself.

Enough of this idle chit-chat. This ain't no retirement home.

The small ryobi pressure washer is awesome, doesnt take up much space and works great. I use it all the time and have had it for about a year. No issues so far. Now I have a 3500 PSI gas pressure washer that I don't use at all because its loud and over powered. I'll let it go for $250 if you drive to midland to pick it up.

I would go with a gas pressure washer. They will have 4-5 different nozzles for varying degrees of pressure, from foam bubbler to take the paint off. Whatever you do, get one with a Honda engine. As long as you use an ethanol buster in the gas, it will start first time, every time. Most of the pumps are all from the same manufacturer, no matter the brand name on the pressure washer, the only differences are the engines. Honda only.

I use 'em but the electric ones are junk. I've tried 5 or 6 different brands over the years up to 2000 psi. They never last more than 3-4 years with just occasional use. I used on cleaning the siding and eaves, scrubbing outdoor furniture, cleaning up the tractor, knocking mud off the truck and 4-wheelers.

I have one I bought at Sams 20 years ago with a Honda engine. It is still going strong. I would consider it overkill for washing a car, but it never hurts to have too much than not enough.

I bought the Larger Sun Joe electric pressure washer from amazon . I think its rated around 1800 psi . Its Just enough for washing my boat , car , and truck . But I really wish I had a 2000+ psi with a nice honda engine for the pavement cleaning . More psi would also be nice when the clay is stuck to the under carriage of the vehicles . I have been very diligent about putting that winterizer / lubricant in the pump every time I'm done with it . I'm going on 5 yrs of no issues but I'm sure it would be a different story if I used it and then let the chlorinated / fluoridated water just sit in the pump to corrode and then evaporate and leave the minerals behind .

Had a Husky electric one I picked up like 10 years ago for $59. Dang thing wouldnt die and I used to connect it to my hot water heater which is supposed to be bad for them. Last year when my local Sears was closing down I snagged a 2800psi Craftsman for $200. Seems to be holding up pretty good so far but time will tell.

I put my electric one on the curb after the hose came loose at the wand, and whipped around and slapped the hell out of me. Electric ones suck. Im done buying cheap tools.

I've had both, save your money and just buy a cheap electric Sun Joe like Mr Simpson stated above.

can't comment on electric pressure washers but my honda powered craftsman is 5-6 years old and still going strong....cranks first pull and so far been real happy with it....watch home depot/lowes and you can probably get a gas powered one on sale for close to $200.00......
