Planning another trip down between Christmas and New Years like last year. Getting to do Monticello again after all those years before it shut down reminded me of how much fun I used to have in the winter down there. So since Monti is now cold and low it kinda is off the list. We did Welsh last year one day and will hit it again for sure but in reading around heard about Martin Creek and I have even got a map for it and been looking at it. But noticed nobody talks about it much. Is it that bad...... or just not as popular as Welsh... or is it the hidden secret that will have boats everywhere when we get there...LOL

Just looking for a few days of hot water fun with the wife and a few fish along the way.

Here's a link to a thread about running Martin Creek. I'm no expert on the lake, I'm sure others with more knowledge than me will respond. Another East Texas lake to check out is Brandy Branch AKA Perkey Creek.

Yep, Swepco isn't far from the OP at all, near Gentry Arkansas. Used to be great, went through a few down years, and then last year I went twice and had really good days. It's not Monti in its prime but there are some big Florida strain in there.

Nobody has any thoughts on Martin Creek? It looks interesting on the map.

I prefer Brandy, it's easier to run and not mush different in distance
