As stated in an early post my son hit a log and ruined the transom in his project boat. We only paid $1200 for this boat to start with and for a 98 Procraft he has done well. Before we paid someone thousands for a new transom I went to You Tube and researched doing it ourselves. Looks like work but not too complicated. Has anyone redone their own transom and how did it turn out? Thank you everyone.

hate to promote another site but you need to go over to bass boat central. they have an entire sub forum devoted to restoring boats.

That wont fix the transom.

Cheapest option is Seacast.

I guess you didnt read his post all that closely, maybe re-read it...Hes gonna have to spend $6k-$8k for what your solution was. Its different if they wanted to spend that much.

I have done 2 transoms with pourable transom similar to seacast. Doesnt cost a lot and isnt that difficult to do. Figure one weekend to open it up and remove old transom and the next weekend to mix, pour and close up. Im not sure of the condition or damage to yours but strictly speaking of rot from leakage, pretty easy fix. Dont even have to be too good with fiberglass because your work will be hidden so cosmetically it will be just like new. My transoms have come out stronger than the original.

If you want info on it pm me and Ill be happy to walk you thru what all it entails. Cost would be in the $600 range give or take dependent on the size of the transom. My last one is on my current boat and is probably 2 years old now.

I did read it and I dont think it would cost that much. It seems to me you can have anything done to a bass boat in the great state of texas for pennies on the dollar due to the vast number of places competing for business etc... A 1998 a boat to me is a newer boat, my last one was a 84 that I had 22 years. Id think a 98 would be worth fixing right and using for 20 more years.

In fact East Texas Fiberglass is ALWAYS begging for business, he worked for either toledo or fork fiberglass for 10 years and is trying to make a go of it on his own. Here is his latest post on fb

" Fiberglass and gel coat repairs! Reinforced hulls, transoms, floors, stringers, gel coat restoration, and carpet! All work guaranteed, & lowest prices in East Texas! Willing to barter partial or full payment. 20% off any "legit" estimate for the month of December. Bring me your boat and a written estimate done elsewhere, and we will make it happen. 100% satisfaction guaranteed. Insurance claims welcomed, chances are I'll save your deductible. Call or text Robert. 9035703645."

Anyways Im just trying to help.

THAT is cheap.... much cheaper than a fiberglass and gel coat repair to a damaged hull..
