With the other flourocarbo threads, I thought I would share this .They Tell us that flourocarbon has no light refraction so that fish cannot see the line.
This is a true story! Last summer was at Possum Kingdom at Hells gate swimming with the grandkids on the pontoon boat. One of the kids threw some Cheeto puffs in the water And you shouldve seen the size of catfish that were coming up and eating those Cheetos.
With visions of blackened catfish fillets dancing in my head, I return the next weekend with a big bag of Cheeto puffs, a spinning rod with 6 pound fluorocarbon and a tiny treble. I bury the hook into the Puff so that its not visible, throw out a handful of puffs and cast out into them. The catfish come up and eat every puff except for the one that has the hook. I have several attempts at this and it has happened the same way every time except for one catfish that was a little bit of a gambler. He would come up and swat at the last and final Cheeto, and after several attempts he finally decided to take the chance. Unfortunately my hook was too small and he got off so I have yet to enjoy those fillets. If you dont believe me you should try it yourself. If nothing else its a lot of fun .
All that being said, if catfish can see that line, I know bass can see it, but I still like the performance and the feel of Flourocarbon.

How do you keep a Cheeto on a hook?

The Cheetos last about 90 seconds before they desolve and the hook falls out.

I would not touch a cheeto with a treble hook in it either, smart catfish.

It could be the treble hook that they see and shy away from.

A long time ago when I was a teenager(looooong time ago) my family went for an all day picnic/hangout at Meadowmere Park on Lake Grapevine. Fishing off the bank for hours with fresh lively minnows nobody caught a single fish all day. When we were packing up the 9 passenger station wagon(thats how long ago it was) to drive back to Grand Prairie we were pulling the live minnows off our hooks and my sister drops her bare gold crappie hook with no bait in the water and instantly catches a huge crappie. I instantly learned a life lesson: fish dont read the rule books and you just never know........

That same lake and the same area, I have caught many a Channel cat on a 20lb Seaguar invizx leader while fishing for stripers. We catch a fair amount of LM on them as well.
I think those fish in Hells Gate are close to being like the fish at the dock. They get dropped Cheetos, Doritos and such all day during the summer. They can probably tell when something is not right, be it the line, hook, or presentation.

My boater thinks fluoro is all bunk, still uses mostly mono or braid. Of course, me using FC Sniper and he out-catches me usually, but could be that he's just a better fisherman than me, or that he's on the front of boat .

Try putting the tiny hook in the Cheeto and throw it in without tied to line (to see if it is the line or hook or both)

The sink rate of the Cheeto with the hook and fluorocarbon will be a lot different than the sink rate of just the Cheeto. That's most likely the difference.

Water at my lake is so murky I could tie a hook to a dock line and the fish couldn't see it.

Braid came out as the new super-line for bass fishing many years ago. Marketing genius! That stuff had already been used for cat fishing for 50 years before that!
