Fished yegua Saturday brought home 25 Crappie and 6 white bass.

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

I caught a white bass in Nails Saturday and one at Irwin bridge on Sunday while I was crappie fishing; so I figured they would be starting to bunch up in Wolf pond. Thanks for sharing the video.

I walked into Newman's bottom this morning. The trailway bridge is closed bang
I tried fishing a couple spots on the near side, slipped a couple times, caught 2 white bass and a crappie, then decided to head to Irwin bridge. I caught 5 white bass and 2 crappie at Irwin. All fish were in the 10 to 11 inch range. The white bass are slowly but steadily moving up into the creeks.

Jamie, thanks for the post. That sucks the bridge is closed. It really limits the bank angler, making some of the good holes inaccessible. I may head that way tomorrow, but I'm on the fence about it. It's a lot of driving. Weather is supposed to be great though.

Ben and I talked to one of the park representatives today. He said they don't plan on opening up that bridge any time before the white bass run is over. So we will be limited to fishing that one side. Then again, I guess we can always walk in from Irwin bridge like we did early in the season last year. They are still talking about repairing the road and opening up a different route for cars to drive in though. I suppose through the oilfield entrance as they don't plan on repairing the bridge near the entrance. The cost would be too high.

Looks like another big rain event possible for end of this week. Any big rain we get this time of year usually triggers a run up the creeks for the white bass. Not so great for the crappie fishing though.

The fishing was just as tough yakking up the Yegua. Would have saved the marathon walk though. You got to shoot a great video at least.

All, if the forecast holds this Friday's storm could be a real game changer. The amount of rain predicted would shut down fishing in the creeks for a minimum of three weeks, but could lead to an epic white bass run this year.

It would be hard to beat last year's fishing. I limited out every time I went but the last one and had 18 but last so many fish that day.

Got my supply of deer tails for the up coming season thanks to the good people from Cherokee, TX. Now just need to dye them evening blue and I will be ready to start tying.

I remember my favorite year fishing the Yegua. There was very little rainfall and the water got as clear in the lower end as I've ever seen it. Boats could not get in because the water level was too low. You really had to work to get a kayak in because the brush at the mouth had gotten very tall during the drought, and there was only about a foot of flowing water. Had to drag a lot of the way. But once in the creek, the crappie fishing was the best I can remember. One day I sat in one spot and caught 12 inch fish on every cast for like an hour straight. It was almost laughable. Can't remember the year, but it was a good one. fish

COE shut the flow from the dam yesterday afternoon. I went out and fished in the rain this morning. I caught 14 white bass, 3 hybrids, 7 crappie and 2 goo this morning. All the white bass except maybe 2 were keeper size. None of the 7 crappie were keepers.

The great news is the hybrids the TPWD stocked in 2017 are now in the 18.5 to 19.5 inch range. Come April and May of next year, when the shad start spawning on the bank, should be some incredibly fun fishing. The 2017 group should be in the 20 inch range and the 2018 stocking group should be in the 17 inch range.

Wow, nice catch! Sounds like a great morning of fishing. I rarely fish the dam as it's such a long drive for me, but I may have to make an exception one of these days.

I was wondering how all this rain has effected the white bass run for this upcoming year. A real good flood at this time really brings up some huge females. Maybe this rain will get it going great. I like when they get thick up around Irwin bridge, you then know it is going to be one heck of a good year.
