This is my first Winter Striper Fishing Trip on Texoma in 4 years? I picked the right group and guide for a great day of Dead Sticking Striper! I have worked on Lake Texoma Fishing Guide John Blasingame's website for two years, but not fished with him! Got my final clearance from Neck-Doctor 11-8, booked Lake Texoma Striper Guide John Blasingame, called FastGuy and Boyer Boys, pointed the truck north and went fishing! We fished in the Little Mineral Arm and found some nice fish Dead Sticking Flukes! Blas has a nice boat with lots of room and he can find fish! As Robert Earl Keen said, "It feels so good feeling good again!" Some quick Dead Sticking Tips:

1) Slow your boat in the wind! Under 1 mph anglers! A drift sock or fancy new trolling motor will help!
2) Use enough weight to get your flukes to desired depth! Big Wind = more weight!
3) Match the hatch with your fluke! Take 3" and 5" flukes! Use lure scent too!

Another very cool announcement is moestackleshop first guest blog post from famous Lake Texoma Fishing Guide Chris Carey!!!!! Chris Carey of Striper Express shares his favorite Striper Lure Modifications
It's a very good read so go check it out HERE!

Glad youre feeling good and getting into the fish! Thanks for the tips. Ive never dead sticked so am about to go try it so perfect timing. I was torn on if I should spot lock of move around/drift slowly and looks like either prob would work.

I just wonder too if I should only fish with one rod that I can hold or it possibly rig up four rods and put them in rod holders...anybody have any suggestions? And is there an advantage to deadsticking versus just using live shad or even fresh cut shad? I would think if I can catch shad i would likely do better.

One rod in hand - when you feel the bite you have to set the hook NOW. Leaving them in the rod holders will just irritate you by missing most of the bites.

Granted, sometimes they'll inhale the jig when the rod is in the holder, but you'll consistently get more fish the first way. If you're able to manage holding a rod in each hand, you can give that a try as well. I did it a few times and mostly had chaos as a result.

That is good to know!

What do you think of just using shad live or fresh cut over deadsticking. Lot more bait in the water and probably cant go wrong but if you are having to set the hook it may not be as effective as warmer months.

Thumper will allow you to hold a pole in each hand. Suggest a stinger hook to shorten the learning curve. The crew here in w'ford always fishes with as many poles in the water as possible . Keep in mind that you will miss some hits, however the principal is to establish a pattern, depth ,size shape and color. When hooked up , the scramble to reel-up lines is a test. A tandem set up is key. We prefer the heavier jig head to be on top with a 3 foot tag line and a half ounce bare jig on bottom and laced with 4 inch fluke. We all have our preferences , been dead sticking for 12 plus years. The pendulum action of the bottom jig has been most productive. We have taken lots of double digit fish with this set up. Garlic chartreuse dip is required.
