I’m new to owning a boat but I got home today and noticed a small puddle of oil under my boats motor. The oil was leaking out of the weep hole. It’s a 1995 Mercury 175 efi. I’ve heard it could be oil from the fuel mixture or gear oil. I drained the motor and there was a bit of a brown streak in the oil but didn’t look horrible, I was wondering if anyone has had this happen to them before. I ran the boat about a week ago and never really ran it hard, I got home and lowered the motor. Now it’s a week later and the temp outside got up to 73 today and that’s when the leak finally showed up. I hope I gave y’all enough info. I appreciate any help thank you.
if its not unburned fuel it likely is gear oil leaking out of the shift shaft in the lower unit. check the color of the oil if its black and smells a little burnt its unburned fuel oil mix. leak could be too much pressure in the gearse for some reason or the seal is bad, either way the gearcase is going to need inspection and or resealed
