Can anyone share some tips on how they are catching shad this time of year. Of course I had no problem getting bait while it was warm but last time out couldn't catch a thing. I was marking them in 20+ FOW but came up empty every throw. I went out and bought a heavier net and hope that will help. Any advise from you guys would be very much appreciated. Taking my dad to Twak this weekend and don't want to ruin our trip not being able to catch bait.
My wife just thinks I'm at the bar. I'm really out fishing.

Toms right as always! In 20 where I found them Sunday I couldnt have caught them without a tape net. Without them being taped they close before reaching bottom. Good luck w your Dad!

Ya, I'm wishing I didn't have to tape my net too. Seems like there's no avoiding it.

Betts Deep Hole Cast Net with the built in mesh webbing... I throw the Sea Green 7ft one. They are heavy duty and can really wear you out if you have to make a lot of throws but I'm not sure what I would do without it. Just spend a little more time marking bait on the sonar before you start throwing. Not cheap. Will cost you about $125. https://www.bettstackle.net/castnets/images/Cast%20Nets%202017.pdf

It will help a lot if you go to the high end of the lake. If you can find stained or muddy water you will catch shad. Stained muddy water at night is almost garenteed shad catching any time of year with a 7 foot net thrown correctly.
