I have a Lowrance HDS that I believe is the 2016 model. It has Side Scan but I cant get it to work... I have tried adjusting every setting possible and it just wont work. Is it possible that when the place I bought the boat from installed it they used a transducer that doesnt have Side Scan?

The down imaging works fine just cant get anything from side scan. I started looking around on the Lowrance site and it looks like they might have 2 different transducers available. One that is $119 and another that is $250 that mentions it has side scan?

If your getting downscan then you should be getting sidescan. The Chrystal that runs the right sidescan also does the downscan. At least thats what I have understood. In your structure scan menu you pick side and/or downscan

Maybe I worded that wrong... I am using my Chirp Sonar (which I called down imaging because it shoots down) but not getting anything out of my Structure scan.

Sounds like your using the totalscan transducer. In settings make sure your reading this unit . And the right transducer

You should have a standard transducer for 2D and one that is about 6" long for the side/down imaging. Make sure your side scan module is getting power. It should be wired through a switch of some kind since it doesn't have a power button. If wired straight to the battery, it will run them down.

Mine just has the one wire coming from the Side scan transducer and one wire from the sonar transducer straight to the back of the unit.
I then have to put up a side scan and a sonar chart to see it.
I usually put side scan on the big side and sonar and map on the other.

Not sure about the HDS but on my Simrad NSS the StructureScan or TotalScan ducer has to be plugged into the Sonar 2 port.
