I am in Whitewright and prefer small water fishing. Does anyone have some tips for paddle-able creeks or other small bodies of water in the area?

Don't know that area too well, but I wonder if there are any major tributaries running off of or into the Red River.

If so, mapping out a few of those would make for some interesting fishing.

Bonham State Park and Lake Bonham.

Lake Bonham has some decent feeder creeks.

Coffee Mill and Lake Crockett are not that far and are smaller lakes. Your area doesn't have much in the way of rivers or creeks that always have water. Try to friend a local rancher with a small lake. If I lived closer the the Red River I would try to find some access and explore it.

You can paddle below Lake Ray Roberts Dam for a few miles. Good catches of largemouth, crappie, gar, catfish, carp and buffs.

Im off Ida road between Whitewright and Sherman. (Bells address). Ive wanted to go down Choctaw creek but never have. I cross it on Hwy 56 and 82 all the time and theres always plenty of water. Looked at it on Goigle Earth and it looks very good. My only concern is access to in and out points and finding impassable log jams. I think if I get dumped out on 56 or 82 I could drag to the creek and get in. Theres not a lot of get outs other than private land so it may mean finding a crossing riad to get out. I would be game for going and figuring it out.

I have also fished the small lake in Farmersville. I cant remember the name. No gas engines allowed. Few bass boats using trolling motors, few 2 man boats and quite a few yaks. Clear water and lots of grass. Close and easy. Ive not fished them but there are 4-5 city lakes in Sherman and Denison that are easy to get to as well.

I believe you are referring to South Lake... I agree, it is a great kayak lake, especially if you like fishing grass and lilly pads.
