During the winter I like to try to improve on a technique for next year. Its frog fishing for me this winter. I have thrown frogs in the past but it's never been something I've consistently thrown. I plan on buying a dedicated rod/reel just for frog fishing as I don't run braid on any other baitcasters. I'd be interested to know what frogs you guys prefer and what rod yall prefer to fish them on.

Falcon Cara 7'3" XH swimbait rod and the 7'4" Heavy cover jig rod. I use both depending on how thick the slop is!

Falcon Cara 7'3" XH swimbait rod and the 7'4" Heavy cover jig rod. I use both depending on how thick the slop is! Those are both good rods! Cara Amistad is great when fishing around scattered cover like bushes and patches of grass. I mainly use a 73H Kistler KLX been my main frog rod for 5 years and it has always done great

+1 for Flacon Cara Amistad. You can double duty for heavy cover flippin with above mentioned rods too. The Falcon Bucco Amistad is a good budget alternative.
My favorite frogs are the Spro Poppin Frog and the Booyah Pad Crasher.

Hello, my name is Matt and I'm a frogaholic. Everyone is going to have their personal preference, for me I use two brands/types of frogs. I've tried all the major brands and settled on the below.. For fishing targets I use a Spro Bronzeye 65. Perfect balance and I find these frogs to be more durable, easier to walk, and a much better hookup ratio. IMO. For covering water I use the Ribbits Top Toad buzz frog. Really been happy with these, awesome to be able to kill the bait and have it float in place. Rod wise, you dont need a high dollar set up... depending on the cover you fish either a solid MH or Heavy action with a little tip to help with the walking action.

On the reel get a 7:1 Curado K. Pretty hard to backlash.

I use a Dobyns Sierra Series 735C. Tons of backbone and a fast tip to be able to cast it miles and walk the bait. For frogs I use the RI Swamp Donkey and KVD Sexy Frog. There are tons a great frogs, those are just the ones I have the most confidence in.

I use a Caddo Custom Rods 7'3" heavy for frog fishing. It's stout! I like Spro frogs for the most part, but have not tried a bunch of different ones to be honest. Revo SX 7:1 reel with 50lb Power Pro

I prefer a G.Loomis 844 IMX paired with a Lews superduty reel. Spro frogs are good and River2Sea makes a good one as well. There are so many hollow body frogs on the market now that you will just have to try a few and see what you like. Don't expect to get alot of action on that frog in the dead of winter unless you are fishing power plant lakes. My line of preference is PowerPro slick in 65Lb. Good Luck !

I think it's a Booyah....I use a MH BPS Tourney Special 7' with a fast tip. Revo XS....best way to learn is through it at night. You'll teach yourself how/when to set the hook if you can't see the blow up.

For the rod, I use a Lew's Custom Lite Speed Stick Magnum Pitching Stick that is 7'-4". It has a little bit of tip for skipping and tight casting, but has a ton of back bone to get the fish moving in the right direction in heavy cover. For the reel, I use a Lews a Team Lew Custom Pro Speed spool in an 8.3:1 which allows me to take up slack quick. For Frogs I stick with the Spro 65 and the popping frog when slow frog fishing and the Booyah Toad Runner when covering lots of water all on 60lb Sunline FX2 braid. This is by far my favorite way to fish.

Dobyns Champion 736 for me. Really good balanced and sensitive rod. Is extreme sensitivity that important in a frog rod? No, but this rod just feels great and doubles well as a great larger plastics or jig rod. Lots of backbone and a fast enough tip for throwing some light hollow body frogs. Which reel? Really whatever you like now for most techniques. For me thats a Revo XS in a 7/1(or faster) gear ratio. 50lb Power Pro braid all the way. Im not a braid fan and this is the only set up that gets straight braid for me but its the best combination for frog fishing for me.

My absolute favorite way to bass fish. My PB 9.5 lb came on a Live Target hollow body. Rod and reel is a Revo rocket 9:1 and a Revo STX 8:1. Rods are the Abu Veritas 7'6' MH frog rod. Tackle Warehouse has the rods. One is for Hollow body frogs and the other is for hollow body popping frogs. Do a search for Mark Perry. He has a write up on frog fishing , good article. And go 65 lb braid.

I prefer the Baby Red Wing Black Bird over the Frog.

The frog I use? KVD Sexy Frog. VERY good frog. Durable, soft for easy hook up, and pretty good at staying buoyant. The color I use is white. Its the ONLY color you need. Just buy a handful of the white ones and a pack of sharpie markers. Add colors as needed on the bottom and keep the part you see (and the fish dont) white. Its easier to see it way back in the pads. Learn to walk it. Cadence is everything in frog fishing. If fishing pads, cast WAY back into them. Steady drag it at a pretty quick pace across pads and STOP in open water holes between them. Same for slop. Steady pull and pause in an opening.
The rods I use for this are all heavy moderate rods. One is a 73 the other is a 7 ... brand doesnt matter but lighter and stronger is a plus. It is a sight technique, so sensitivity isnt needed. Moderate tip helps with walking. The line is 65lb samurai by Daiwa. The reels I use are Shimano Curado K high speed left handed varieties. 4 6 rod twiches per handle turn..steady pulsing is my normal cadence. Sometimes I slow it down to a 6:1 speed. Never faster.
Also, a nice trick is to cut the frog legs a little shorter on a frog, same length as the body or shorter, In case they are short striking. Another little tip is to trim one leg a half inch shorter than the other, it will help with the side to side walking.
Hookset needs to be hard!!!! Dont fool around or be a whimp. Slam the hooks home.
Oh....when you start to catch em, our frogaholics support group meets on Tuesdays.

I use several different frogs and haven't come up with a favorite yet but for the rod, im a little different than others have suggested. I like a 7ft M/H or H action depending on the manufacturer you choose. I can walk the dog with a 7ft rod easier than I can with a longer one. I use a Lews Super Duty 8-1 gear ratio reel and 65 pound test braid.
The rods that I use are a 5 power.

Ok another reason I don't run braid on my baitcasters is because it is my nemesis! I never backlash but put braid on a baitcaster and I'm cursing within 5 casts! What's the dang secret?

Make sure you aren't using too small diameter of line. For example, 20# braid is same as 6# mono. I would suggest 50#-65# braid for frogs. 50# braid is same diameter as 15#.

Old school right there... Tell you what though those suckers work sometimes when the others dont. Paycheck baits Transporter frogs are my favorite....Cant find them anymore though. Discontinued I think. I have a pretty good stock of them though. 5 or 6. That should last a while.

Should cast the same. Even with 65# braid. Make sure you are leaving some mono or floro on your reel as backing before you put on your braid.

I use a Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch and usually 55lb Daiwa Samurai braid. Lots of great frogs on the market including the Spros, Teckels, and Terminator brands. I have been testing a prototype on and off the past year or so that I like a lot and actually got the final prototype on it. Its built right, stout hook, great body that is durable and compresses very well, walks very easily and comes over or through cover well. And last but not least does not take on water too bad.

I'm short, and fish from a pond boat. I use a 7' Heavy rod by either BPS or Berkley with a Lew's LFS 6.8:1 and 65# braid.

I would also recommend using some KVD lure and line conditioner, the reel magic is good but I think the KVD is better.

Just learn to cast it there is no trick 50lb-65lb braid is a must for frog fishing, and it cast just like other lines.
