For the past month I’ve been hitting Texoma a couple of times per week to chase striper. I don’t know if it’s because of the flood but my go-to east coast spots were not producing. Then, because of a greatly appreciated tip from Dipson, our fellow TFF buddy, I focused on a new area with great success. Thanks Dipson!!

My last trip was Tuesday of this week. I started off with my favorite fly, the Purdy……..’cause I think it’s Purdy…….but soon changed to a deceiver because of the dirty water. Fishing wasn’t ‘on fire’, but it was very good. At dusk, the bigger fish came to play. The last three I caught were two 7 lb’ers and and 8.5 lb’er.

I love striper fishing!

Very nice! Looks like you were using a full sink line to go deep. Last week I was up there in my float tube but I had to launch at the dam and work my way down the bank and caught nothing. I wanted to put in at East Burns Run because the stripers have been up in the creeks, but the park was closed because of the high water. While I was on the south side fishing I saw several guide boats at the mouth of East Burns Run and then up in the creek, they were catching plenty of stripers.

Fish Chaser, what a keen eye you have! Yes, Rio T6 full sink line. For the past few weeks I have been alternating between a floating line and a sinking line and can't say that either has out performed the other. Ideally, I would have two rods on my little boat-like thing, one with a floating line and one with a sinking line. But, I would end up stepping on the rod not in use and breaking it, so no second rod. I do have two spools for my reel and have a float on one and the sink on the other. But I usually pick one or the other and stick with it for the day.

By the way, you can access E. Burns even though the area is closed. Park at either of the gates (the one to the swimming area or the one to the boat ramps) and walk in. Perfectly ok to do so and each is a short walk. If you choose the boat ramp area, you can put your float tube directly in Burns Run. If you are adventuresome, from the south facing boat ramp at E. Burns, fin your way the 200 or so yards to the little island that is due south of the ramp. I think you will have a better chance there of getting into fish.

The boat ramp at East Burns Run is open now, but the camping area is still closed. The stripers weren't very active in that area yesterday but I did manage to catch a 4.5# striper, a 2# largemouth and a bunch of small stripers up to 15". The bigger striper I caught as I was trailing a clouser behind me as I was heading back to the ramp. I suddenly felt a tug on the rod and thought I was hung up until the line started to move away from me. I thought I had a catfish at first but was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a striper.
