this headline is from the breitbart link above.

you spend 30 minutes in Mazatln and the road to the highway is a main road & coming back all your time is at the airport and I have not seen report one about an airport being shot up. The El Salto trip is just as safe as going to Palestine or Fork. The camps are secluded and no reason for the cartels to go to a fish camp and bother 10-20 old fishermen. It is not like there would be ANYTHING in a fish camp that they would need

Stay safe and be on your ten toes. Have a great time but be cognizant of your surroundings. Comparing a trip in Mexico to Palestine or Fork is down right ignorance. You are in Mexico not six flags over Texas. Cartel operations thrive in seclusion. The mountains surrounding those nice fishing lakes in Sinaloa are a hotbed of activity. Again, as long as speed and anyone else is paid up...you are good to go. Enjoy, I look forward to going myself.
Exactly

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

My partner and I were approached as we pulled into Zapata very early in the morning last spring. We were filling up with fuel and two guys pulled up and said we would each give them $5. He was nice about it but said repeatedly to just give them the money, he did not want to go to jail for doing something he did not want to do. Anyway, to avoid a fight we gave him the cash. That night in the parking lot of the Oso, there was a huge group playing loud music and drinking right outside of the rooms all night. Fishing was slow anyway and we packed up and headed North. Anyway, that was on our side of the river, I do not want to risk an incident like the one above on the Mexican side, it is not worth it.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

I've fished Falcon prob 30-40 times, deep in the Salanillas and all creeks, around the same time the guy was shot on his jet ski. There was a lot of unrest then, too. I never felt threatened but I had my head on a swivel at all times. I flew into Los Mochis once and took the trip to Huites and that was a different story. We met armed guards along the winding route down to the lake and then back out. It seemed safe but eeery feeling seeing the armed guards. I decided at that time that it would be my last time going into Mexico land in pursuit of the mucho grande pescado. Just too many fish here in Texas to have to go down there and worry about being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I will still fish Falcon or Amistad by entering into US waterways and traveling over by boat. Just a risk that I'll take if the lake ever gets back to regularly pushing out the slaunch donkeys. My three double digits all came from Falcon, but it's gotta be reaaaaaaal goooooood for me to go back.

A couple of boats in our club had some issues on Falcon this year around Salanillas. Park police were at the ramp when we launched and told everyone to stay out of that area. They didn't listen and almost paid the price for some dinks. I have never had any issues on the US side, caught good fish and I let my Mexico license expire. Not taking any chances. Thats my two cents.

>>> everybody that has been has a story -- good or bad
>>> everybody that has been has a line in the sand they will not cross when thinking about going again
for some the line is closer to the USA than others ,,,, like most things it is a personal choice and has nothing to do with stupidity, ignorance or bravery. It is just a line in the sand.
Some people won't fish when it is 40* out, some will fish when it is 10* below.
Some people like the thought of catching 200-300 bass a day with 7s-8s-9s in the mix and possible DD fish.
Me ,,, I grew up in the valley, went to Matamoros every weekend with my folks, handed out candy to the kids while my dad handed out bibles,,,,,, would I go there today--not on YOUR life,,,,,would I go to Nuevo Laredo today --- not on MY life,,,, would I go across the bridge at El Paso --- NO WAY.
Would I fly to Mazatln and go to El Salto with Angler's Inn --- yes, in a New York minute.
To each his own --- and Oh by the way: Don Harper's line is way out there. I give the man props.

Yes. My line is way out there into Mexico and has been for 35 years. Mexico is not a place for anyone that is afraid of loosing there life. It gets more difficult each year to find guys that are not afraid to make the trip. All I can do is lead my life in the right direction and pray that the good Lord does not see fit to end it with a violent death in Mexico. It is good to be scared; but afraid to die, NO.

I guess there are odds that catch up to you the more you do anything over and over. I am more concerned about the odds of being on the road and getting killed in a wreck with all the hours of driving than running into trouble. There are very few precautions that you can take in Mexico to keep from running into trouble. All of those have been mentioned. We drive in, stay inside the compound, never leave and drive out. The only other one is; do not go! I have not chosen that alternative. Traveling into Mexico is like a small rabbit crossing a pasture and if the Eagle is watching, you are not going to make it.

I make this trip in through Nogalas, AZ.. It is interstate 15 all the way. This has made a great difference in continuing to do the drives. There are no mountain roads or off the beaten path that we have to take. Five toll booths also helps with military on this international highway. Oviachic is the shortest distance off the interstate at only 25 miles and that is a new 4 lane road for most of that distance. I am just as scared to drive here as well. The difference is we do not expect for our U.S. highways to be blocked and get robbed of everything you are carrying.

We leave Jan. 31st.; if anyone wants to go.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

Will be fishing Mexico several times over the next 13 months:

Picachos w/Ron Speed - Dec 2018
Falcon w/DG - Feb 2019
Picachos w/Ron Speed - April 2019
Comedero w/Ron Speed - Dec 2019

Most lodges are at FULL capacity coming into this new season. I attribute it to great fishing and an even better economy! I'll let you know if we run into any problems.
