For me it's about the side scan ability. The transducer should be below the hull for the best results. Not that everyone should buy a Hobie, but I really like the new Guardian transducer mount on the 2019 Outback and 2019 Pro Anglers. I look for other companies to follow this lead within a few short years. It accommodates side scan transducers below the hull line and has the ability to retract when an obstacle is encountered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwUL9VlFO14 Until I get a boat, with this technology, I'm running a Ram mount over the side. If I paid for side scanning, I'm NOT going to hold it back. If you own a race horse, you don't rent it out for kiddie rides at the fair, you let it run. Same with the fish locators that are available today.

Just watched the video and hobie does have a great idea. Really like that it retracts when hit something and can pull up into hull when pull up on shore and put on roof top. For my coosa hd, looks like I will be using a transducer arm.
