Has any one had any luck with the buffalo or carp from the asian market for blues? It would be nice to be able to buy it cause gizzard shad have been real hard for me to find.

you used to hear about this being done and yes, it will work. But I don't think gizzards are that hard to find right now myself. With no location in your profile it's more difficult to offer suggestions, but if in the DFW area there are folks out there that sale fresh shad. This pic was 2 days ago.

there are a couple folks in that area who sell shad. Might be hit or miss with them, but Carey Thorne (he's on facebook and here on the forum) as well as fisherman's supply right off of 30 west of Ray Hubbard. They normally start posting as it gets colder when more folks are having trouble finding bait.

I will purchase a carp or buff from the Asian market and use it for cut bait on local ponds and rivers. Shad is best, but being limited to the banks, I don't have as much luck. I also try to catch bluegill from a few of the local ponds. The Asian market is my "last resort".

Yes. Ive had days when Buffalo from Fiesta caught fish and shad didnt. Be careful what you get a Asian market - if its a Game Fish even -Pond/farm raised -or resembles a game fish you could get a ticket from Game Warden.

Nothing wrong with carp or buff for bait, there are some guys on here I can direct you to who have bait licenses and can get you a good price on carp, buffalo, and shad that will likely be fresher than the stuff at the market. Pm me if youd like their contact info.

Go to "New Truong Nguyen Market" in Garland. They have large shad from time to time.

I'm also in the Rockwall area and I have had luck in the past purchasing shad from Clarks Tackle . 696 I-30 Frontage Rd, Garland, TX 75043 . They have always been great and easy to purchase from .
