I've noticed I have a coolant leak coming from the area of my driver side turbo on my ecoboost. After doing some research it seems to be a fairly common problem in higher mileage vehicles. Anyone ever had this problem and had it fixed somewhere other than a dealer? Would like to avoid the high labor rates but don't necessarily want to compromise good work either.

You gotta be freakin kidding me.... I just found mine today.. a few drops of coolant on the driveway. I started poking around and found a wet spot on the hose coming out the bottom of the coolant tank.. did a google on it and it seems to be a common issue.
google it.........I will start looking for my best fix. 2011 f150 45,500 (I don't drive it much) 5.0

Yeah the leaky coolant tank is the most common problem. Unfortunately I have the leak coming from my turbo way up under the engine. It will be a pricey fix I am sure.

Just in case anyone is curious or runs across this same issue. To replace fittings on the turbo and a coolant cross over tube the dealer quoted almost $2k.

Curiosity on my part, I have considered buying an ecoboost.

Did you have the dealer fixit? Any prices from other shops? From what I remember hearing that isn't much less than what it costs to replace/rebuild the turbos.

Have you looked on youtube to see if it is a DIY possibility?

I went to two other mechanics and they said they would not even attempt the repair. It is being fixed by a master ford tech that works for a dealer but is doing it on his own time. He is a friend of mine. He said if it was dealer billed it would be a $2k fix. I am not paying that but it still is not cheap. $400 in parts alone. I did plenty of research on it and yes you could do it yourself but the turbos are so hard to get to and my lack of mechanical expertise deterred me from that. He tells me they see this problem a lot with the older and high mileage ecoboosts. Mine is a 2011 with 160,000 miles and this is the first mechanical repair I have had to have done.
