My goto rig uses a fixed sinker, but I want to make sure this isn't a problem for the bigger blues. Thx.

I don't think it matters. I use a Carolina rig setup which means the weight is free to slide up and down the line but when a big blue takes the bait they will move the entire rig and almost pull the pole out of the rod holders. I learned the hard way when I stated fishing for blues in shallow timber without rod holders, we lost several poles over the side of the boat which is why we put floats on our poles. We all use rod holders and circle hooks now and let them load up on the pole, they are vicious when they strike. I love the sound of drag screaming out and turning around to see the rod bent over in the rod holder.
