I've been waiting for the bass fishing to get really good before putting up a report. Usually, by this time of the year, the action is as good as it ever gets. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened yet. The only explanation I can see (other than the east winds) is that the water temps went from the low 80s to upper 60s in one week - and the bass are still in shock. The water temps are perfect, there's plenty of grass, the lake is full, bait is everywhere, gates aren't open, bass just haven't been biting like a normal year. This time of year, I like to find fish on my electronics and fish for them under the boat with spoons and drop shots. Last trip, we got very few bass compared to other species. We got a little action on buzzbaits and dropshots. But definitely a disappointment for late October bass fishing on Lake Fork.
Fortunately, there are plenty of other fish in the sea (as the saying goes). I'm catching lots of crappie and yellow bass, even while targeting largemouths. So, until they come out of their shock, I'm promoting crappie and yellow bass fishing. The weather should be beautiful for the near future. So, if you fish with me and the bass aren't biting, I'll have plenty of light rigs to make sure we get some action.
As the air temps get colder, I don't travel as far to my spots. So, my expenses aren't as high. To pass the savings back to my customers, I lowered my rates for the rest of the year to $350 for a full day and $200 for a 1/2 day (2 people). I supply all rods and tackle and will even clean the fish if we quit early enough.
I really enjoy taking kids and will put together a free video at no extra charge.
