Lost a wheel bearing this weekend but have the axle chained up pretty well but its 120 miles from home - any advice on if I'm good to tow it home on two tires on one side - one tire on the other - the one that's bad is the rear axle. I'd take it easy and keep it to 60 mph or less.
Thanks

Have done this a few times with a flatbed with a moderate load or empty.
Is this a boat trailer? Or something else? On our flatbed you don't even have to tie up the axle end with no tire/wheel it rides plenty high.

Not sure I'd go up anywhere near 60mph in that situation. 40-45 maybe, but that would be it for me.

Make sure you have it strapped good. Grease the bearing before you start ,, check tire pressure, check a few times. Have done this several times even with a bobcat on the trailer.

Since this is not the 1st time its happened I carry about a 10' chain to secure the axle up - thanks for the reply but decided to just leave it at the trailer repair shop and have the new axle shipped directly to them.
Giving serious thought to replacing the vault hubs with regular old bearing buddy grease - this is the second time its happened and ruined the axle both times.

1st time it was the inside seal that went bad, this time not sure since by the time I discovered it the vault cover was gone and everything pretty much melted. I think these are great except that since the grease is more liquid when they are warm and you get some kind of leak they go so fast there's no warning. I had driven 150 miles on it that morning with no issues then the next 20 mile trip everything went bad. If you can still do it I highly recommend paying the $50 for the extended warranty - I didn't of course and by the time this is all said and repaired going to be right at $1,000. You have to buy the extended within the 1st year.

I blew a tire somewhere along the way going to Texoma from the house. It is about 80 miles. Did not even know it until I got to the lake. When we got done fishing we put the spare on. It blew about 20-25 miles in to the return trip. Both the tires had at least half the tread on them and the first one to blow had just been to Austin to Buchanan and back home. When I checked the dates they were both about 9 years old. On that trip I probably ran 100 miles on 3 tires. Trust me on the return trip I was a little concerned about making it to a tire shop. That was an expensive trip. In addition to buying new tires. I had a big striper take a 10" gizzard shad, rod and rod holder. I had the clicker on but had bumped the handle and took the reel out of free spool. Even with the drag set fairly light it snapped the base off the holder.
