Went to Grapevine today. I was sucked into all the flooded grass and trees with Zero success.
I don't have much experience with flooded lakes - Is there a solid strategy?

lots of variables with rising water. Water color, temperature, structure, forage base. keep switching baits till a pattern emerges.

find the clearest water on the lake. Start there and work your way back to where it starts getting more stained.

Took me a little while to get the bushes and flooded yummyness out of my mind this weekend, once I moved out to the cover that was where the old bank line was prior to the rise in water I started catching them. For me it was punching grass in 7ft of water with a 1 oz jig instead of fishing bushes, potato grass, and reeds on the bank. Seems weird for the fish to not be in the newly flooded stuff considering the shad are all up in it, I guess sometimes those fish forget to read bassmaster magazine.

I've not fished grapevine but the lakes I have fished have been really off since the cold front and rain. I still think going shallow is the right strategy. You just have to move fast and cover water until you find them. Once you do, slow down and work the area. The summer/fall transition time is one of my least favorite times to fish. It's always tough for me. This crazy flooding and early cold have just made it worse.

The lakes I have fished since the rains are not exactly following conventional fishing magazine/book wisdom at all. Best results have just been to drop trolling motor and start fishing till you find them.

Don't feel too bad if you ain't on em now, seems like a trend. I hit Lake Worth Saturday and found the bait and what looked like bass but couldn't make them bite if my life depended on it. Was up shallow, mid and deep. I threw spinner baits, square bills, bladed jigs, jigs, drop shots, weightless flukes, TX rigs and the rest of the kitchen sink. I zeroed like a champ...

All this and a paycheck.. Live the dream

On Grapevine think 6 feet. Good bite yesterday. Went threw several packages of baits. And a pack of hooks. One of those days.

For me its where they was before the water rised. Zero bites in new stuff. All 5 and deeper. But the bite was really odd. Several never even felt. A lot of swing and misses or theyd hit hard and never take it. Several different baits too.
