I bought this trolling motor on a used boat and have not been able to get the Anchor Mode to work. I have the GPS light on and when I hit the anchor button it makes an error tone.

I have tried to calibrate the GPS with M+1,1,1 and it also will make an error tone. I even tried reverting back to factory settings and am getting a single small beep.

I called Motorguide and they want me to bring it in to a service center that is over 100 miles away for troubleshooting. They think it is the GPS module but I was told by the dealership I bought it from that the GPS Module was changed out by them. It does have the latest software

Any ideas on where to go? Should I just sell it?

sorry for your pain bud motor guide will take your money and when you have a problem they give you the middle finger. the older motor guides are great new ones junk. i had a new x5 paid 1300 for it and finally took 200 buck just to get rid of it.

My GPS module went out, took it to a service center and Motorguide paid to replace it. Didn't give me the middle finger. If it is the GPS module you won't be able lock in Anchor Mode or use Heading Lock.

If it hasn't worked since they replaced it, I am betting they installed the GPS Module upside down.

I checked the gps module. I turned it over and it would not get a signal.

The dealership I bought it from said they had just replaced it so I am hoping that I can exchange it since motorguide has a one year warranty on parts

I have a Xi5 and have had no problems with MG warranties on issues.

Had my gps module go out, took to shop, replaced at no cost. Oh and I had broke my remote, still worked but the piece holding the lanyard broke. I asked them to replace it at my cost (I broke it). They replaced it at no cost....

I've had problems with my xi5. It came out of the box with a bad circuit board. Took it to the real guys over at Boris and they repaired it quickly with no charge. Now after the repair my auto pilot wasn't working correctly so I got in touch with motor guide who were super nice, and they sent me out an updated dongle to flash the board. Was quick and easy. Been awesome ever since.
Maybe this helps

MG has some of the best customer service I have encountered. It is not MG's fault that you live 100 miles away from a authorized service center. You can take it to one and it will be fixed free of charge, or you can just complain online about living so far away.

Ask them to send you the software update. They will mail you a device that will update your motor (they call it a boon doggle or something of that nature). It fixed my first Xi5 and it fixed my 2nd Xi5. If that doesn't work, the receivers's wire probably got wound too tight and pulled out of the receiver bundle. You could purchase a GPS kit for the motor and it should fix it.

Motor Guide customer service is spotty at best and in my opinion they do not care much for Southerners. They like our money but not our personality.

If I had to do over, I would be fishing with a Minn Kota
