That is one beautiful fish Chuck. Nice catch and congratulations on yet another record fish! I have heard that gar usually go into a somewhat hibernating mode during the winter time. Is this true? Also would this hold true in a warm water lake such as Calaveras? Any one who know's gar patterns feel free to reply!

Thanks Curtis for the reply! I do not target Gar and do not know much about their patterns. I do know that during the winter time they are hard to find! I usually catch the ones I catch during the late spring,summer,and fall.

Thanks Chuck. Come to think of it I do not see any gar during the winter months. Do not catch many but when I do the fight is pretty good. What has been your best month to catch Gar?

Usually during the late spring and summer I catch the most gar! As for the month August has usually been a good month for me.

It seems that I have seen most of the gar I see during the summer and early fall months. Do not see any during the winter.

Side Note: What is your PB Gar?

Thanks Gitter for the reply. Caught my PB on Lake Placid. 56" Long and about 35 lbs. It is the current C&R Lake Placid Longnose Gar Record as well as the weight record. It was also a State C&R Record but has been beaten several times.
