...on lake Mead, anyone else following this one? Wind is supposed to blow 25-35 tomorrow, day 1 tomorrow could be real interesting.

Hard to get excited about 1.5-2lbers. I lived in Vegas and Mead was a complete bore to fish. Cool scenery though

One of my favorite lakes. The US Open has changed a bit but still a popular tourney. It’s a long 3 day challenge. A 10lb limit is common and 14-15lbs will usually win a one day tournament. I remember 8lbs a day being strong years ago.. smallmouth coming on strong past few years. Way tooooo many stripers but fun to catch. Crystal clear water. Lots of sunken boats and airplanes for scuba diving. Lots of history. Great scenery. National Park.

When catching 1.5-2lb bass bores you, it's time to find another hobby!

I grew up in Vegas and fishing Mead. About had to learn how to fish again when I moved to Texas. Beautiful lake it is. Lots of wildlife for the desert. I would see big horns, coyotes, rattle snakes and even bald eagles in winter were common.

We would not use anything over 8lb test and usually more like 6lb. Braid was not something you would use as most places you could see down 25 feet or even more. Lots of drop shotting, split shot rigs, darters and tubes. Anything that rattled was generally not a good idea. Had to be subtle 99% of the time. As mentioned the smallies have really taken off on Mead.

I will be watching the coverage or what I can find of it. Was always a big deal the Western Open.

I've read it can get nasty on a "normal" day. Good call on cancelling.

Also a Vegas rat who used to fish Mead regularly. Lake has changed dramatically over last 10 years. Lots of shoreline cover available now to fish.

How is that, isn't the lake about at an all time low pool level?

Can't explain why, just repeating what several long time friends who fished 2017 Open told me.
